Syphon72: I'm not surprised the ZOOM employee would say this.

Linko64: I'm not a Zoom employee. lol Even after your attempts to mini-stalk me you still couldn't read?

As ever going off-topic though my guy
I did go off topic, which I apologize for. So this will be my last reply to you. It's not stalking when the Zoom CEO said you work for them in an interview. Your also well know on ZOOM discord and have this on your profile. ( In the pic below) I'm a ZOOM customer allowed to go on their discord. But I guess that makes me a stalker. Right?

Have a good day.

Not my job mate, I work on 10+ projects in my spare time outside of my 9-5, Zoom is one of them. Hope this clears things up. But let's not go into this in a random thread, I'm pretty easy to contact ;)

as for the topic itself, talking about a final swing is not negative. It's good people finally get Skyrim DRM-Free, same with Space Marine and DoW. The only concern is the bigger stuff becomes the aim over older titles forgotten by the masses, that's always been the appeal of GOG for me, started with SWAT 4

de_v1to: judging by the inflow of games currently (especially skyrim), id say yes....
Too bad this wasn't in 2017 when i was still buying games here...

Clownski_: We're entering our da Vinci era.
I will believe you once da Vinci tells me this himself in Assassin's Creed II. :P
Not sure about the games, but the forums are mostly breathable lately. So I guess it qualifies.
I don't know that this is a GOG renaissance, but...

... it does seem that after an extremely rocky patch...

... GOG is listening and trying to "right the ship" on many levels.

It's good!
Are high-profile big-budget AAA games the type that people most want here?
avatar
Mjauv: During the last six months or so, GOG has seen high profile releases such as Alien Isolation, Warhammer 40K Space Marine, the Mafia remake, Chorus, both Kane & Lynch games, both Middle Earth-games as well as Skyrim. Besides these, we also have new high profile games like Bastille and Stalker 2 available for pre-orders.

Before this period, releases of AAA titles were beyond scarce so I guess my question is in the title: is GOG having a renaissance moment and can we expect more high profile/premium games coming here with the same pace?
I think GOG has always had an ebb and flow of releases from AAA publishers. I recall 2013ish being rather void of any big-name releases; in Oct2014 iirc we got Disney releases.

My guess is to some extent, perhaps a large one, GOG are subject to/ at the "whim" of CDPR/CDP's reputation and to publishers' relationships with CDPR/CDP. Right before Cyberpunk2077 released we got high profile releases from Konami and Sony, and haven't gotten anything from them again. For a few years after Witcher 3 we got some titles from EA (and I believe Ubi), but nothing since around 2017 (and I think 2019 for Ubi?). Hopefully CP2077's improvement and Edgerunners has a positive "trickle down" effect for GOG.

(A user here posted some months ago about how he talked to someone who works in AAA games and how CP2077's bad reputation likely hurt GOG's ability to bring AAA titles, at least for a period of time.)

I do hope Shadow and Rise Tomb Raider show up soonish, though Shadow was given away on EGS a few weeks ago.

--------------------------

edit: a minor concern I have is with all the big-name releases "bunched up" like this, they don't have as much time to "shine" individually as they deserve and that might hurt sales slightly. But maybe GOG is mainly thinking of the long tail.

While certainly not exclusively...

... I think many are hoping for a mix of both indie / AA and AAA.

It is the type I want at least and I'd argue they are the most difficult ones to get. Thus, every such release should be considered a 'win' IMHO.

Older AAA titles are always welcome, why not :P.

Skyrim at least has been a top demand for many years, and at this point I think we can classify it under "good ol' games". Revamped editions notwithstanding, it's a reasonably "old" game in 2022.

But look at today for example: there certainly has been a mix of AAA, AA, A and even some B titles, so take your pick :P.

Another that hopes too
Without being me their fan or the most loyal customer I honestly don't find a reason to don't wish them getting better and better

AAA titles attract audience ➔>> potential customers ➔>> more sales ➔>> more leverage to bring more vgames volume

The thing is, it is a long and not easy road, full of tasks to be executed with talent in order to keep moving [forward]
Lazyness, lack of leadership/vision/teamwork, mediocrity won't help at all

Let's see how GOG performs. We will notice

No, i think my current procurement methods are sufficient. Especially when Epic is providing 1-2 free a week as it is.

Though i wouldn't object to trades with keys already purchased.
been off the whole gaming thing for a few years now, recently came back to it. was never really much on gog, loved the idea but i have to be honest - felt it was a bit too pricy, at least for my tastes (considering some of these games are 10-15 or more years old - great games but still, always felt they were a bit expensive).

i was pleasantly surprised to see that, while pricing seems to be the same, gog does seem to be offering a lot of discounts and so on. from my memory - i don't really remember seeing this 3-4 years ago. overall it feels ... more lively, more active. made an account, definitely gonna start buying games here, whenever possible.

so - as someone coming to visit gog after several years of absence - i'm definitely noticing good things, at least from where i'm standing.

that being said - aren't we going about this the wrong way ? somehow the discussion is positioned to place gog as responsible for this but i don't see how that is.

i'm sure gog would love nothing more than to sell all games ... it's not like they refuse to add x or y game to their library. it comes down to the game publishers mostly.

in a world where half the focus is NOT on getting you to buy the game, but on tying you down to the game long term (with accounts, and long term crap and so on) ... they're not exactly clamoring to gog's approach of download it and play it.

so i don't really see what gog can do about it, not until that approach changes in the industry and/or gamers start to value drm free more. edit: and to be honest, i doubt this will happen anytime soon. younger players not only are not bothered by drm, they thrive on them, so if anything this is only gonna get worse. i think drm free is attractive mostly to older generations that grew up without always online and umpht number of accounts (30ish or more).

granted - perhaps my perception is skewed a bit - since the thing i like the most about gog is precisely it's lack of online requirements and the drm free thing ... i tend to focus on that.

maybe there are other reasons why AAA games are not coming here (though to be honest - i seriously doubt it, i don't see how ubisoft or EA or any of the big ones would ever be happy about people just downloading their games and playing them without some kind of account or tracking or whatever).

I don't know about a Renaissance, but things are starting to look better in the procurement department. I grew up with most of these titles offered here, and while they are classics, some are just too "classic" by today's standards. Put another way, pixel art games are popular today. I cannot tolerate them for a second. That was state of the art when I was a kid, but I have no interest anymore. I want those slightly older but not ancient modern AAA titles. Let me actually stress my GPU a bit while giving me the DRM-free experience that keeps me a hermit. So yeah, they are doing better here recently. I hope they keep it up.

As for the user who asked what games don't work here....well, Crysis for one. There are many others too. GOG needs to get back to the lab as it were and fix those too to live up to their creed.
