I really liked GOG connect, I was able to get many steam games here on GOG because of it. Is it ever coming back I wonder?
No it was an experiment.
There is a post somewhere by a blue as well.

No and it never should I saw a lot of Steam PC video gamers abuse it who purchased the video games on Steam only to get the video games for free on gog.com.

They were free loaders.

Hi thanks. You could argue GOG connect could hurt sales on GOG per I found myself wanting a game on both platforms and on a few occasions I bought a game on steam that was on connect and then just transfer it over to gog so basically GOG lost a sale in those rare situations.

I understand what they were doing also though kinda similiar to what Epic Games is doing as they used GOG connect as a way for you to have more of a gaming library on GOG in hopes that may make it more likely you would buy games on GOG.

Eh I do believe it can and should comeback but be like a timed thing.. like say a game came out before it was thought to ever come to G.O.G and those who bought it on Steam before it was advertised as coming to G.O.G iether get it at a nice discount or get it for free..

Honestly for me thats why I think G.O.G actually now has on releasing games here that has been on Steam for ages why they either get a steep Discount or regularly go on sale here is the reason behind it .. For example I can single out Sleeping Dogs and the latest added Tomb Raider games and the Thief Reboot as having had several in quick session sales of em and still regularly seen super cheap on sale sense showing up here this year .. Which I can't help but think is linked to the fact many don't want to pay full price for a game they likely already own on Steam at this point

Granted for me I am willing to pay full price at times but usually I don't have too as for several cases the games I have held off on buying has several cases popped up on here with a dirt cheap discount on release here .. So ya I have to think if the G.O.G connect came back with something like ''if you bought the game before advertised coming to G.O.G its either free or at a good discount for you ''

FYI I hold off to buy games till they are iether on G.O.G or the likilhood they won't show up here is very good they won't anytime soon if at all

That wasn't abuse. Getting a free DRM-free copy of a game that you bought on a different store like Steam was the whole point why GOG Connect even existed.

I am talking about after GOG Connect was announced I saw Steam PC video gamers purchase the video games on Steam just so that they can get the gog.com versions of those video games for free.

Like bitterly after GOG Connect was announced I saw those Steam PC video gamers do it.

You can even read them in comments from a bunch of video games that were GOG Connect where people made topics here on gog.com if you feel like looking for them to read them.
Well i got defender's quest for free on steam and i got it for free on gog thanks to gog connect. Though it was a steam gift from a certain rpgmaker site user.
Still have to play that game properly i know people like it but i haven't started yet.
And am not a big fan of steam mostly used gog games anyway.
The not coming back doesn't bother me since i got the game and there weren't many steam games on my account anyway.

Sorta off topic but thanks for bring that game to my attention it seems up my ally in terms of interest
The fact they haven't nuked GOG Connect entirely, suggests they are leaving the possibility of a reactivation open.

In reality GOG Connect is a promotional tool, and I guess they use it when they feel they need to and can afford it or see some benefit from it.

It may also be down to those who provide games to GOG, such that if none of those are interested in it, it lies dormant.

There is nothing wrong with that scenario in the way how it's described in the quoted text.

However, if you had meant to say that they bought the game on Steam, received a free copy on GOG Connect, and then refunded the game on Steam whilst keeping the GOG copy for free, then that would be a clever scam that can be and probably was abused.
i cant see how this can come back at all
it was probably very labor demanding to make such agreements and then additional support cost for very minimal probably failed advertisement
As mentioned before, GOG Connect offers were time-limited and are no longer supported. I will close this thread now as the question has been answered.
