It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

joshdad: That's strange, because the link you sent me is the same link I used to download the version I thought I was using (I wasn't even a member of GOG back in 2008 / 2009.

How do I go about completely uninstalling the GOG downloader? I want to totally erase it, so I can then try re-installing it..
Here is direct link to the newest GOG Downloader:

http://static.gog.com/download/d3/stable/Setup_Downloader_3.3.14_stable.exe

Just install it, old downloader should be overwritten.
I went into my control panel, and erased the Gog downloader (I actually had 2 versions there - so I erased them both). Then I followed the link you sent me, and re-installed the downloader. It asked for my email, and password, so I logged back in, and tried to download a game - and I got the same message I've been getting (same as the screen shot I sent you).

I just tried it again and got the same message.

You must be running old version of GOG Downloader, there is no other option. Make sure you uninstalled and installed the newest version again.

That's what I keep trying to do, but it seems like no matter what, it keeps coming back to this same version.

How do I go about completely deleting it? Should I erase everything on my PC that has to do with GOG? I've tried using the control panel to erase the downloader - that didn't seem to work.
I went in manually and looked for anything that had to do with the downloader, and erased everything, and then re-installed, and I'm still getting the same screen with the same message every time I try running the downloader.

What is the best way for me to make sure that I am deleting the old version (however I got it in the first place), and making sure that it doesn't come back up again?
Maybe this helps.

Whenever I try to use the downloader to get a game I get that screen that I posted earlier. However, in my task bar (on the bottom of my PC) where that little arrow pointing up is that shows what programs are running I get this: (see error_02.jpg) attachment. There seems to be 2 different GOG downloaders trying to run. The one that always seems to run first is the one that keeps giving me the trouble.

The other one I think is the newer version (which seems to be this: see error_3. jpg) which looks like it wants to run, but it never gets that far, because the first version keeps running.

Again, I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of that first version, but no matter I do, it just seems to keep coming back. I've tried updating it, I've tried deleting it (both through the control panel, as well as manually). What else can I do?

I went ahead and tried to use the downloader on my laptop, and it works fine. So obviously the problem is here on my PC. I just need to find a way to get rid of that irritating old version, so I can get the newer (correct) version to run. So again, any suggestion on how to do that would be helpful.

joshdad: Again, I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of that first version,
With the (wrong) downloader running, open task manager, go to processes, and try to identify the process (gog_downloader.exe*32 or something probably). Right click it, "Open File Location" and then delete it. As I recall, the old downloader didn't have an installation procedure, so deleting it should work. You may need to reinstall the current downloader to fix the browser parsing though.
OK. I did that (thank you for the suggestion) and found that somehow (probably something dumb I did a while ago), I had a different location for the original version (something like C:\Gogdownloader). I went ahead and erased that folder.

However, now I seem to have a different problem - now when I try to click on a game (like Chaser) for example, and try to use the downloader to get it - I get this message:

File not found. Firefox can't find the file at gogdownloader //chaser/win-installer.

I'm sure that I somehow changed the path that the downloader is supposed to look to find the info (or something like that), but I don't know how to get it back to where it's supposed to be. I've tried redownloading the newest downloader, but that doesn't seem to help. I keep getting the error screen (I've tried a couple of different games.

joshdad: File not found. Firefox can't find the file at gogdownloader //chaser/win-installer.
Firefox Options->Applications. Find gogdownloader and reset it to default (not sure how). You could probably just select the proper downloader for this one, and I think there should be a post in this thread explaining how to do it, let me see if I can dig it up.

joshdad: *snip*
Completely exit and restart the correct, up-to-date version of the GOG Downloader. Make sure you run it as admin. It should create/update the registry key for the URL protocol on startup. If it still doesn't work, you may have to manually delete the old registry key.
I think I finally got it!!!

I went ahead and went into firefox's options / applicaitons like you said, and changed the path to the correct one (actually the default seemed to be the bad path for whatever reason) and it appears to be working fine now.

I'll go ahead and test it on a few games, but I think it's working properly now.

THANK YOU so much.

And hopefully this is a good lesson to others out there who might be thinking of doing the same dumb thing I seem to have done initially and changed the original directory location path. Unless you really know what you are doing (which I obviously don't) just leave the recommended directory location alone.
I would like to make a feature request.

When I instruct the Downloader to download at 0 kB/s between the 08:00 and 23:59 I really mean exactly zero bytes per second. It seems that the downloader really requests one "packet" every so often so that over the past 26 minutes I have downloaded 12 MB which works at roughly 8000 bytes per second.

My feature request is this: When a user has asked to limit the speed to 0 make the Downloader pause downloads. Then when there is no longer a limit of 0, due to the time or user intervention, unpause the download.

Thanks.
Further to my earlier post here...

I attach a screenshot of the error. Any ideas? I've reinstalled, and even manually deleted the GOG.com folder in AppData and also any registry settings I cound find.

deadfolk: Any ideas?
While I was under the impression that this only happens if the downloader gets too many items at once, I encountered it today while trying to verify the installers for The Witcher 2. What solved it was adding something else, so try adding one of the free games, preferably the bonus content, and see if that helps it.
Oh, and do check that the path the downloader wants to download to exists as well, you will get trouble when adding an item to the queue and the download path doesn't exist (removed disk for example).

Thanks for the suggestions, but none of those things are my problem. I tried pointing to a different folder, just in case, but it made no difference. It happens instantly, as soon as I click a download link in my collection page. I've tried installers and bonuses, but no change.
