UPDATE: Last chance to grab your games from the original list! Make sure to get them until June 8, 12:59 PM UTC.

Want more games? We've got more games! Three new titles are now available through GOG Connect:

- Kona
- Defender's Quest
- Door Kickers

You can get them until June 13, 1:59 PM UTC.

Today, we're launching a new program called <span class="bold">GOG Connect</span>. The premise is simple: connect your Steam account and add your eligible games to your GOG.com library.

Whether you're checking us out for the first time or have been with us for a while, <span class="bold">GOG Connect</span> gets you DRM-free versions of your games, digital extras, and a whole lot of freedom of choice (like whether you go with the GOG Galaxy client or not). It gets you our take on game ownership, and we say: why buy the games more than once?

Thanks to our awesome partners including Deep Silver, Harebrained Schemes, Jonathan Blow's Number None, TaleWorlds and more, you can now add more than 20 games to your GOG.com library if you previously purchased them on Steam.

The full list of games will always be available on connect.gog.com, starting with these and more:

- The Witness
- FTL: Faster Than Light
- The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut
- Galactic Civilizations 3
- Trine Enchanted Edition
- Saints Row 2
- Shadowrun Returns
- The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

While <span class="bold">GOG Connect</span> will stick around, the available games will come and go. These are limited-time offers made possible by participating developers and publishers, so stay tuned as we bring new titles onboard in the future (and grab your copies before they go away)!

For a bit more library-building, a bunch of our favorite titles will also be discounted up to -85% all week long, including The Witness, Saints Row: The Third, System Shock 2 and more. You can check out all the deals here. The sale will last until June 6, 12:59 PM UTC.

Hilda: Does this mean I can buy Elder Scrolls Oblivion Delux at Steam then have it available on GOG - DRM free?
avatar
skeletonbow: No. In general with very few exceptions, you can't buy anything on Steam and get it here free on GOG. People should generally buy their games where they want to own them permanently as they normally will not be transferable except under very special circumstances if a publisher decides to do it. Some publishers can be contacted via email or similar and if one provides a proof of purchase they may allow a customer to receive a Steam code or GOG code for their game, but that is quite rare and not widely known or advertised. The only one I can think of off the top of my head that has done this was the publisher of The Black Mirror games, who have given out Steam and GOG codes upon proof of purchase in the past. They may or may not still do that, but they did at one point.

Other than that, the only ongoing offers for redeeming Steam or CD/DVD owned copies of games on GOG is the link at the bottom of the GOG homepage labelled "RECLAIM YOUR GAMES" which there are currently 6 games listed since that feature launched quite a while ago. It only works for certain versions of the games in question and not all. I was able to redeem STALKER Clear Sky using RECLAIM YOUR GAMES". The other ongoing offer is from CD Projekt RED, where you can claim a GOG copy of The Witcher or The Witcher 2 here if you own them on Steam. I don't have the link to that handy but googling for "Witcher backup gog.com" should find it.

The GOG Connect feature also allows game publishers to allow customers who have purchased their games on Steam to be able to redeem a free copy of the game on GOG for a limited time if they wish to provide this as a service to their customers. Since it is rare that publishers want to do this there normally will not be any games offered freely through the GOG Connect service like this, however if and when a publisher wants to offer such free copies to their customers, GOG has the GOG Connect feature there to make it easy for publishers to make such promotional offers. To date there have only been about 25 or so games offered through the service in about 3 or 4 batches. Normally when there is an offer available it only lasts for about 5 days.

There is however no other way to redeem games from Steam on GOG other than what I've mentioned above. Hope this helps clear it all up though, as it can sometimes be a little confusing.

Hilda: The original game's only ownership check was that you had to have the disc. I've already bought the disc version twice so I am resisting paying for the delux version again just to have the Steam DRM millstone round my neck.

Otherwise, does anyone think Oblivion will come to GOG any time soon (-ish)?
avatar
skeletonbow: There is a lot of talk about Oblivion coming to GOG in the forums, and there was some leaked information that is highly suggestive that it and a number of other high profile games are likely coming here (goofup on GOG's part). Quite a few games off of the list have subsequently been released on GOG since then, and so we remain hopeful that Oblivion and the others will make their way here some time too however since they have never officially announced it, even if they were working on making it happen a lot of things can occur that can change behind the scenes so we can never be certain of the time frame nor guarantee that such will happen. Nonetheless it does seem promising. Many speculate that Oblivion and/or other Bethesda games might be launched here when Skyrim Special Edition is released soonish, and others that Skyrim might even come here, but we haven't seen anything to suggest that that will happen yet.

Bethesda has been fairly GOG friendly this year though, so hopefully they've got some nice surprises lined up for us in the coming months/year. Feel free also to join the "games confirmed ..." thread and the "Enigmatic hint" thread and join us in plugging for Oblivion to come here "for the cause" if you wish. :)
Thanks so much for this reply! I did think I was being over-optimistic, thinking I'd spotted a loop hole! haha!. From what you said, I now have to watch out for announcements (I do get gog alerts in my email). Hopefully when gog get Oblivion, they'll shout it from the rooftops. I have voted for Oblivion on the gog wishlist and do check in regularly. Also, thanks for the info - I have now added "enigmatic hints" and the "games confirmed" to my favourite topics. But.. yes, I agree that Oblivion on gog will most likely happen after some move at Bethesda, like Skyrim Special Edition, or Elder Scrolls 6 (aaaargh! that would take ages!). In the meantime, there are other brilliant games to keep me happy.

Yeah, from what is known and all the speculation etc. I think that Oblivion showing up here is probably a certainty, only the timing of it being unknown but I wouldn't be surprised if it is on the order of 1-12 months from now all things considered. DItto with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Skyrim and other newer properties however I think would be welcome but would be more of a shocker surprise to show up here as I think the majority of people doubt it will happen any time soon even though they'd shit bricks to see it occur.

Personally I think Skyrim is a long way off yet on GOG but only because I think that a significant amount of players desire the Steam-like workshop integration for picking up mods, and tonnes of mods are available only on Steam workshop. Sure, there is the Nexus out there that many use and could use with GOG also, but it would make oodles of Steam-workshop-only mods out of easy reach of GOG customers and that would at a minimum cause quite a highly polarized firestorm in the community between people who think it is unfair and cry murder, and others who are happy that Skyrim is DRM free here at all and maybe don't care about mods etc.

But despite what side of such a theoretical forum battle of words one might stand on, both GOG and Bethesda would be in the unenviable position of trying to please everyone, where people have potentially strongly opposing opinions. I guess we'll see how a similar clash of swords works out soon enough when Bethesda releases Skyrim and Fallout 4 on consoles - without mod support (thanks to Sony being a jackass) after promising customers of the platform the games would support mods.

I speculate that if we are to get Skyrim here on GOG in any form, it probably wont be for another year or more and possibly not until GOG creates their own "workshop" type solution, however they've never officially stated any plans to do anything like that and whether or not they ever do it is probably years away due to more urgent features that remain incomplete to date.

Then again, some of what I've said may pertain to Oblivion also, so it's hard to say for sure... all rampant speculation anyway, and we've all been wrong about things like this before - in particular with judging Bethesda and their motives/plans. :)
Would love ot see this feature coming back! :)
HUGE update.

GOG.com: The full list of games will always be available on connect.gog.com, starting with these and more:

- The Witness
- FTL: Faster Than Light
- The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut
- Galactic Civilizations 3
- Trine Enchanted Edition
- Saints Row 2
- Shadowrun Returns
- The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
Having connected my accounts and then wondering why the Witcher Enhanced wasn't showing up despite it being in my steam library, the answer was:

"Hello,

Please note that The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is not a part of GOG Connect. However, you can reclaim your copy of The Witcher games here - https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup .
Also, if you are interested in games eligible for GOG Connect, please go to https://www.gog.com/connect . There is a list of eligible games displayed.
I apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Best regards,
(...)
GOG.com Support"

So, yeah, the permanent list isn't permanent any more it seems. I'd missed that bit of info. Although for those with the Van Helsing game, it's on in the current and presumably time-limited titles.

No list is 'permanent'; they've always been valid for a week or so.

The Witcher 1 & 2, on the other hand, *are* permanently transferable, through the backup link that you've quoted -- that began even before the 'Connect' program.

I see. I'm not the only one to have misinterpreted this, given the number of posts on GoG and elsewhere that I read before contacting GoG support where people are wondering why Witcher Enhanced and other titles no longer showed up.

The line "The full list of games will always be available on connect.gog.com, starting with these and more:" is confusing at best, as it could suggest that the games on the list are permanent, rather than the list being permanent but the contents of it subject to change. The press release does make it clear that some games will have limited availability, but it seems quite a few people read that specific list quoted in my post above as being permament, with other titles (Kona etc) being subject to change.

For other confused people see this guy: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/steam_games_not_being_detected_by_connect/post3 - google searches will turn up plenty more sadly.

Thanks for the input.

That definitely is misleading.
Actually when the Connect page first went up, it wasn't made clear that you not only had to *connect* the two accounts, but click some other button to *transfer* the games once connected. Some people missed out on the first batch because of that.

I have had my steam and GOG in "YOUR ACCOUNTS ARE BEING CONNECTED" status for months already. Does anybody else have the same problem?
X Gold (X BTF + X Tension) and X Rebirth, but not X2 and the X3's?

I did -- you need to contact support, and ask them to 'reset' your connection.
I have a question for any members or Blues to answer if they can:

I have both TRON 2.0 and Spore (base game, no DLC) on Steam. Knowing that Spore's on here already and 2.0's coming soon, I was wondering: can I use GOG Connect in order to receive both games on here, if EA and Disney have agreed?

Yes, should you ask them? No.
