I'm guessing dtgreene meant that "a" doesn't count as a word in the rules of the game stated in the original post.

But also "a" and "an" are indefinite articles. "The" is the definite article.

A simple brainfart. I was originally going to explain the differences but changed my mind to only say "articles". "Definitive" was left in accidentally.
