There's a bit of a Je Ne Sais Quoi to the graphical style featured here that in blunt terms, isn't helping the game look like a city.

I think in blunt terms, this doesn't look like the 22 Gigabytes[!] it is asking for is being put to good use. Just to compare to a game from 2003, SimCity 4 only asks for an absolutely miserly 1 GB, and feels more attuned to the look of a city than this.

One problem is a lack of variance in important details, (such as spinning trees about or simply populating them with slightly different variants), but also that a lot of the textures are glaringly obvious when viewed. Especially the terrain paints.

The problem is that this isn't just a city builder. Its more like an Anno game in modern setting.
Am I correct in understanding that this game has been in development for 15 years now (7 years by a single person followed by 8 years by a small team) --- and now it releases as an "in development" game?

Or Banished with roughly the same size as this game webpage, 160MB.
No, not even joking.
You say that like multiple 30-40MB animated PNG files are a bad thing.

Edit: don't think I've ever seen a game with a 16GB min/32GB recommended requirement before. Even Transport Fever 2 is 8GB/16GB.

I'm rather intrigued and impressed by what I can see but I'm currently not up to adding another InDev title to my list and I will need to know how well it Wines first. Still, I'll keep an eye on this in case my mood becomes more experimental and Wine info arrives.

And the Anno games on GOG are only 3 GB large at largest. I don't know what the devs at FourExo Entertainment are doing, but optimizing doesn't seem to be among them. Even Anno 2070 only takes 5 GB.

Maybe that singular tree doesn't need a texture grid of 8.294 megapixels?
Or maybe the more likely thing, it screams scope creep.

According to a quick search Anno 2205 has an install size of 35GB and Anno 1800 of 60GB. I could not find a quick value for 2070 but since the game is more than a decade old, that does not seem to be a reasonable comparison for a game being in development right now.

Seems reasonable to me. Maybe I'm an old salt who says less is more.
