Branais: The more I think about this, the more I think it's a disaster.
I have no knowledge of the new client, so I have no idea how this will work, but I don't intend to use it, so I really don't give a toss about it.
I just know that my shelf is now an unholy mess, people are saying "you can list them lphabetically" which is completely feeble logic, because A) I prefer to keep my genres together, and B) games that were previously bundled together are often going to be listed in different parts of the aplhabet.
But th business about "smaller downloads" is complete rubbish. For those games that were previously bundled, and came with a single installer, updating was easy: point the Downloader at the bundle's folder, and launch the download, and only updated files get downloaded. Simple. But now, if a game that previously bundled gets an upload, the Downloader isn't going to recognise the bundle's installation files, and so THE WHOLE DAMNED THING is going to have to be downloaded, all over again. And then, to manage your offline files, you either keep the bundle files PLUS the downloaded version of the updated game, or you blow away the bundle and completely re-download all the component games in separate packs, complete with the duplication of ancillary files and installer code.
That is NOT "smaller downloads"!
Wow, GOG. I HATE this idea. I HATE that it makes things more complex for your customers. I HATE that it's a retrograde step in logic. But most of all, I REALLY HATE that, instead of having the balls to be honest and say, "OK, you're probably going to find this inconvenient, but it's what we've chosen to do, and here's why", you're actually bullshitting your customers and, as you've done so many times (for instance, with the regional pricing that you claim is "fairer" but is really only fairer to GOG itself), you're trying to convince us that this is good for us.
That's just disgusting, GOG.
Yes, but all the mess up and the inconvenience doesn't it make you feel just a bit more like to use the client to "solve" these problems? hint hint nudge nudge. :(
I will never use the client and the only thing that GOG manages is to make me feel more annoyed with the way this is done.
I don't want any fraking client, not now not ever. If I wanted another Steam I would use just Steam.
