So, I was playing good old
The Sims. While it is missing a lot of the features of the sequels, I think the isometric perspective and the 3-step zooming gives it a certain style.
Anyway, I noticed that for a mere §2,300, I could aquire a pair of VR glasses in the game:
SSRI VR-glasses connect to a WORLD of entertainment options. Imagine crystal-clear, full-color, big-screen, high-fidelity sights and sounds in your private virtual theater. "Not for use by Sims subject to perspiration, dilated pupils, dilation of bronchial tubes, and secretion of oxytocin, vasopressin, hydrochloric acid and glucose."
Notice how they type the word WORLD in uppercase, to point out how VR (sorta) takes you to another place.
When using the SSRI VR-glasses, the Sim do not walk about. So no roomscale. However, they do look around and try to touch stuff in the VR world. It looks pretty much like what is seen with todays VR users. The disclaimer is a realistic touch, too. (Check out the second image I show it together with the Oculus Rift disclaimer.)
The only downside is that I have been unable to play The Sims inside VR. Both Virtual Desktop and VorpX flatly refused to have anything to do with it! Most likely a security feature to avoid recursive VR! :-P
EDIT: Does anyone have a clue what SSRI stands for?
