So, I have not used Battle.net, played any Blizzard games for a long time, and I don't really plan to change that. However, a friend playing Hearthstone asked me to accept her invitation and play it for just a while, so that she'd get some special rewards. Fine, whatever, I can play it for an hour now and then and then uninstall it if it helps her. However, I later realised I'd have to deal with Battle.net too. So (and I apologise if I sound paranoid)- how bad is it? Because I don't use any clients, I don't want any clients on my PC. Can I install the game play untill I get that 20th level or whatever and then uninstall it and any trace of Battle.net easily and forget about the whole thing? Or is it some spyware/malware shit that's going to steal my soul, clog my PC and piss on my pillow?

I'd appreciate some honest, practicall answer, not Blizzard fanboyism/hate.

its been a while since i installed the battle net client to play the diablo 3 starter but
there were no issues no fuss and it uninstalled just as fast without leaving a mess
Hmm yes I'd also like to know. Though I doubt it, it would be great if they've added an 'offline' mode by now like in steam. I used to have a university friend who regularly sent me battlenet invites while I was online, and never while I was in the mood to play a game. I'd really rather not have to deal with it.

I haven't used it in several years, but my experience at the time was that steam was way better as a downloader. Battlenet downloads often failed on my meager connection at the time, whereas steam downloads was always rock solid.

I'm severely tempted to try Hearthstone out again. I had a lot of fun with it, and at least at the time it seemed like you could effectively play without spending money on anything other than expansion packs. My main issue with it was that my connection frequently dropped which caused me to crash out of arena games.
Come on, I'm sure someone else used it in this decade. I mean, snowkatt kinda answered my question, but I'd like to hear something based on a more recen experience too.

that was last year
I use it, and have used it recently for World of Warcraft (the initial reason I installed it, as I had never really played it, and needed the MMO education), then decided to try out Hearthstone to figure out what all this CCG fuss people are on about (your friend wants a weird frog shaman that is obtainable by inviting a friend :D), and then finally decided to check out the Diablo 3 starter/demo, because hey, classic series. I haven't paid any money for anything on it, and there seem to be literally only a list of 6 games (the ones I haven't played and aren't really interested in currently are Starcraft and Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm).

Not sure how I can help you, I haven't tried uninstalling it yet, I don't have it running when I'm not playing anything (I click the game icon on my desktop, and it opens up Battle.net in which I then have to click the game I want to play, which is a hassle, but whatever), and I often close the Battle.net program after the game I want to play has loaded up (which is possible to do), haven't noticed it slowing down my PC or anything, but like I said, I close it after I don't need it (having loaded the game). Updates are a bit of a hassle when they do show up in that I can't play the game I wanted to play.

I find it less annoying than steam, but I pretty much only use it for hearthstone too.

Hevan't tried uninstallng it yet, one thing I like about it is that it shuts its process down completely whn you close it instead of running in the backgound by default.

I do and i swear to you I have no issue with the Battle.net client at all, it works as it is suppose to.

Me and my Brother used it and they work fine on both our PCs.

Ah. I thought you meant like 2012 after D3 release.
better than uplay and origin and less annoying than steam

i'm using it everyday because of heroes of the storm and overwatch
I have Steam, GOG Galaxy, and Battle.net running almost all the time now. Battle.net is the biggest drain on system resources out of the 3 clients (though not significant). To put into perspective, when the clients are running but idle on my system they use:

GOG Galaxy | 0-0.1% CPU | 32MB RAM
Steam | 0-0.2% CPU | 62MB RAM
Battle.net | 0-3% CPU | 91MB RAM

As far as downloads go, I've never had issues with them, but I'm on a 70mbps connection. Even automatic background downloads don't disrupt my internet workflow or gameplay.

Ok... since everybody is saying it's not the worst demonic curse of a software to install onto my PC I think I'll give it a go. It's only for a couple of days anyway, so maybe it won't have the time to piss me off too much :D
I play WoW on an almost daily basis (as late as this morning). I've never had any issues with the Battle.net launcher. It's a quite easy layout (you click on the game you want to play/install), I have no problems with the downloads and the biggest issue I have with it so far is that it's a bit slow on start up.

SRPattison:
Does this mean battlecursed is confirmed for GOG or battle.net? :D

We do love GOG. ;)

As for Battle.net...that just means that I've fallen prey to the pull of the blackhole that is Overwatch.
