Niggles: Found GOG existed in some article i was reading...
Same here, but I can't remember which for the life of me. Duke Nukem 3D was my first purchase...well, along with Giants: Citizen Kabuto.

Oops, forgot about picking HoMM3 in the same purchase :P

budejovice: Mountain climbing buddy retweeted a sale.
While climbing a mountain? ↁ_ↁ
On Steam forum I read a reference to GoG. I think there was a bitching about Fallout removal or something... IIRC.
Tripped over it while on Abandonia if I recall. Decided to just click through all the links in the affiliates one day, and then I found out the place had Creatures.
Through steam
I was raised by a pack of wolves that were anti-DRM fanatics, they pointed me this way. At least that's what my third origin story says.
After I reformat my PC I find that I cannot download my steam games anymore, contrast that with impulse which becomes gamespot client now that have no problem downloading I think the problem is on steam. I can access the steam store through the client, update it, check the steam community but cannot download games!

I go back and forth with steam support for 2 weeks and was given stereotype answer about things I already tried. The subsequent post even ask me to do things I said I already done in my first post.

Fed up with steam, and gamespot prevent me from buying their games I want with regional restriction I forge out for an alternative. I found gamerrgate and GoG and had been mainly buying from GoG since then till my account grew to 1.2K

As for my first purchase, I see Widzardy 8, Hurrah I need not burn another CD as my first is worse for wear. Populous the begaining! I cannot find it anymore, it is here! Sacrirfice! Age of Wonder Shadow Magic! Hero of Might and Magic 4! Master of Magic!, Dungeon Keeper 2! Vampire the Masquerade-Redemption, I want to try that but they no longer sell them! Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri! Populous 2! Heroes of Annihilated Empire! Neverwinter Night 2!

I went into a shopping spree and spend more then $100 on my first purchase.

I bought a few games then but things are still under control. Then come December sales between 21 December to 1 Jan I addded 103 games to my library, My impulse buying becomes out of control.

So a word of caution to the newcomer, try to keep to your budget in sales season and don't be like me, 1.2K backlog.

It was in my room :P
Googled "Jagged Alliance".
I think I find out about GOG when I've read that they're giving Beneath a Steel Sky for free.
Took me a while to make a first purchase though, it was Journeyman Project 3.
I post on another gaming website, Shacknews - they were hyping the site up when it was about to launch beta, so I signed up and got in.

I really like GOG. I'm not the most active person on the forums nor am I the biggest buyer (I'm not the wealthiest guy around :p) but I've been here in some form from the start. Seen some bumpy days and people calling the death knell over some feature change a dozen or more times - but I still think overall the site has gone from strength to strength.

Lately I've been watching/lurking in the twitch stream a lot, the GOG streamers are entertaining and they play a lot of games I'm interested in. Was cool to see them get partnered a little while back.

Here's to another 8 years. \o/

Needed to play Arcanum and Fallout again, but the discs were scratched. Easy.
Never liked Steam, liked pre-Steam gaming culture more. Still play Team Fortress (Classic) sometimes
I found out about GOG back in 2011. I was looking for a place that sold games without needing a mandatory client. At the time, GOG was having a sale and the Empire Earth game was free. I've been with GOG ever since! :P

Just searching around for certain games and got pointed to it.Early days but to my utter disgust they didn't sell games to my country and left it out of my thoughts until recently.
It came to me in a dream!!

Ok, not really. I grew up in computer-gaming's infancy (the 80s) and had a small but nice collection of games (one could call them a somewhat "humble" bundle).

In the 90s, when I had already played these games enough times that I was done with them, I sold them.

In the 00's, when I began to long for those old memories again, just googling their names brought me to abandonware sites. And sometime after that, I started seeing little banner ads for GOG on those sites. And the rest has been pure happiness.
