A deleted account means less risk of your personal details being misused after an inevitable data breach happens, and as such it's definitely always a good policy to get your account completely deleted whenever you stop using a site.

More likely the account would be deactivated as they would like to have some digital record of the account due to any sales transactions. There would still be a digital footprint. This day and age, nothing really ever gets deleted.

tinyE: If your wife hates video games you don't get rid of your GOG account, you get rid of your wife.
Was there anything in the GOG FAQ about how to achieve that?

I'm not getting rid of my wife yet, she lets me play my games, but better be ready i guess.

That may still depend on the jurisdiction. In some areas companies are obliged to delete all personal data in case of a ceased customer relation. Not sure, GOG would fall under this obligation or would honor it though.
