Congrats on finishing your first game!
I watched the video and the game looks like a modern variation of Trailblazer on the C64. :)

Not in as i'm still using Windows XP but good luck with sales and getting greenlit.

Sweet! I didn't know that game existed, thanks for the tip ;) After watching a few vids, it reminds me that I originally implemented a 2-player feature like that with splitscreen (playable on the keyboard) but due to balancing issues, I had to drop that feature :(
Oh. Nice. Congratulations for releasing your first game ! So that type of game is since long ago eh ? I only knew that kind of gameplay from Orborun. I guess I just don't really know much about many types of game. and I was born late 80's, so.. I don't know any arcade game from that time.

Also some making-of would be interesting. I want to know what the cost consist of..

By the way, I am not in. Good luck in the greenlit process.

I'll write 2 making-ofs in fact: one from the "artistic" point of view and completely erratic development (coz I' m not a professional at all, doing this more due to some circumstances), the other one should come out much later (in November-December)as it will cover all the commercial aspects and how far the game would have managed so far.

______________________________________________________
Now for the costs themselves, here's the breakdown:

Around 3 months of development (could have been done in two if life didn't got in the way and if I hadn't have to learn everything)

Living expenses: when I was on social welfare it was 350€ per month (living alone, I own my house) so multiply that by 3 which gives 1.050€. Needless to say it's below the poverty line in Western Europe.

Quarterly social business taxes: Belgian social taxes you have to pay when you're independant regardless of your profits.losses: around 680€

Copyrights: because you need to cover your ass legally (I don't really care about piracy, content theft is more an issue). US registration fee is 55$ per application. I made separate registrations for graphics and music so that gives 110$

Steam Greenlight fee: 90€

As you can see the numbers don't necessarly add up to what I wrote in the OP (coz of the dollar fluctuation and I don't have my calculator at hand ^o^) but it always ends up a bit below the 2.000€ bar (that's why the price point of the main game is between 3-4$ for around 1.000 units at full price to recover the costs coz it's a niche game which even on steam won't sell by thousands outside of multiple bundles).

I don't include the "tools" costs as I've had them before and some of them are even free (Gimp, Apophysis). As they should be used over a long time, it's difficult to evaluate (and they don't "age" like cars).

Umm... Not in.
I will buy it on itch.io instead (atleast it would not cost me an arm and leg) in that way I can support your work.

Comgrats on becoming your own boss.
Congratulations on the achievement and good luck with the sales.
Not in (no itch.io account).

Thank you! The next update (cf. the readme file) will be coming around the end of next week (coz I'm taking a few days off to rest a bit).
Congratulations! May your release more than cover your costs and set you up for further successes!

I do have an itch.io account and I would be happy to try it out. I'm in!

Have you ever tried the Super Monkey Ball series, Influx, Hamsterball, or Spindizzy Worlds - or maybe the Wii balance board games where you leaned to control the ball? I stink at all of them - including the original Marble Madness - but enjoy them anyway :)

I always enjoyed Marble Madness back in the day. :) My reflexes were/are unusually poor (medical reasons) but I loved rolling that trackball and seeing how far I could get the little ball on the screen along the course before it flew over the sides somewhere. I don't think I finished many courses lol - Which is why will probably mostly use your practice mode ;)

I wasn't any better with Q-bert, but I enjoyed the effects, including the decidedly solid think the arcade machine gave when he fell down. Remember?

Ah sorry, I never came acroos a Q-Bert cabinet IRL, only played the NES version. I would have like to put my hands on the tabletop version though... Picture in the middle of teh page:

For Monkey Ball & co, I played them (the PS Vita version uses some gyroscopic feature) or watched videos for reasearch purposes and making a different enough "product". The best one IMO is still Marble Blast (for level and game design) which was released 10 years ago and is now freeware with still a good community, you can check it out ;)

And for difficulty, I can't finish the speedrun mode of my own game because I always screw up at some point :o) Glad I'm the dev so I can cheat a little to get to the ending ^o^ You can't imagine the amount of "F*CK!!!!" and ragequit I had to endure while playtesting and designing every portions of the game :o) I'll get in touch with some speedrunners, normally, they should complete it in 5 minutes with their skills ^o^
Huh, nice one catpower. You can actually make games, interesting.
Nice looking game!

Unfortunately I'm on a laptop so it looks like I'll have to pass this one over myself, but I'll definitely throw the link around a bit!
Just dropped in to say congrats and good luck with your future work, catpower1980! :)
Not interested in the game, it's not my cup of tea.

Responding one more time as today, I found out there was a Trailblazer which was edited on the PSP Minis. I bought it and played it on my PS Vita and it's a lot of fun, I love it ^o^

Funniliy, I could remake it as well with 2 more key features. If I ever do that you'll definitely get a free copy ;)
