high rated
If you like stealth and if you like roguelike, maybe you will love Basingstroke.

The Steam version is one version higher than the Gog version. The developer says not sure what is in that version, but probably not much. No more work will be done on this game. (but it's good as it is)
My few complaints are the menus. The spot in the menu with item information is in a different spot from using and so on. But at least the game pauses when your going through the menu.
You get a sort of save at certain checkpoints which when you load, you pick what items you're going to bring with, you get so many slots for items you have to bring with. Frustratingly you can't craft there. You can also buy or find insurance policies which allow you one save anywhere.
This game really pushes you to use the various mechanics, very much a skill challenge game.
1 hit, 1 kill. So don't get hit. The objective is not to kill enemies, but get to the next zone, looting along the way.
You have a flashlight with unlimited batteries. When it's on, it attracts monsters. But you can't loot things without shining a flashlight on them. But if you shine a flash light on something and it gets a white outline which means you can loot it, but you don't need to keep the flashlight on it, it will remain lootable even with the flashlight off.. To loot you press up against the corpse, or car, or drawers
Faster movement creates bigger waves of sound that will attract monsters. You can see these sound waves to judge what enemies might notice you. You will do a combination of running around and tiptoeing .
Thrown food items attract the zombies, better items have a larger draw radius.
You can combine various items together, like making a food item that starts a zombie on fire when it eats it.
You can move behind cars and other obstacles and keep a car between you and a zombie and they won't see you and will eventually give up. You can also hide in garbage containers, even flash a light out from under it and you'll be fine.
Looted money can be used to buy stuff from vending machines, you can also break into vending machines.
There are various "classes" to unlock.
"quests" to do (don't get officially handed quests but like finding the holding key and then getting a special item from the police holding cell or breaking into a vault.
*Tricks and tips spoilers*
The quick dogs are faster, notice you easier and chase you farther, but most of them are killable with most weapons. Hit them once to knock them out, and while asleep hit them a second time. It's good to kill these dogs.
The spots where tentacles will appear can be noticed with a sharp eye. If you run across a tentacle spot the tentacle can't get out of the ground fast enough to grab you. You can lure a zombie to kill both the zombie and the tentacle. If a zombie gets in range of the tentacle, the tentacle will grab the zombie and they will both die.
Loos electricity spots can be used to kill zombies, send a reusable sausage roll to lure them into the electricty. There are also electrical boxes you ca hit with a weapon and will burst out electricity for awhile which can be used to kill zombies
Some walls can be broken down..
Anyway, various easier eggs, various strategies, sneaking around, running around, using environments. I'm not sure why this game doesn't have a higher rating. I can see in some reviews that some people don't fully appreciate some parts of the game.
Again, I recommend Breaststroke for Stealth and/or roguelike resource managing fans. It's a dreadfully underated game.
There is also a demo for people to try.
