I have no trouble with Heroes 5 + Hammers of Fate on my laptop. So I decided to install it on my stationary PC as well. Unfortunately, I forgot to make a shortcut during the installation. I tried fixing this by copying the shortcut from the TotE expansion and adjusting it. As I left the game ID unchanged in my rush to play the game, I started it up with this semi-correct shortcut. This action seems to have messed up the installation in a very serious manner. Now I can't run Heroes 5, even after correcting game ID in the shortcut, nor uninstall or reinstall it. The GOG Galaxy didn't seem to know what state the game is in.
I eventually uninstalled all games and GOG Galaxy to start over in the hope that it would make a difference. I also deleted the entire Heroes 5 folder. After reinstalling GOG Galaxy, I still can't get Heroes 5 to install. It continues failing and is left in a weird state, though at least the buttons under "more" are active now, so I can at least *try* to uninstall and reinstall. It just doesn't finish the job. Something is broken here.

Any advice on how to fix this properly?

Have you tried downloading the standalone installer and trying that way?

I searched around a bit, but didn't find any such installer. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? I'm still fairly new to GOG.
Alright, at the upper right hand corner of your webpage is where your user profile is located, okay?

1. Hover your mouse cursor over it.
2. A drop down menu appears.
3. Select "Games"
4. This will take you to your game shelf aside from Galaxy.
5. Use the game search function to type in "Heroes 5"
6. Hover your mouse cursor over the game card.
7. A small arrow will appear on the right hand side. Click it.
8. This will drop down another menu, select "View Downloads"
9. First option will be install under Galaxy. You don't want that, necessarily.
10. Right under it will be an option to download a stand alone offline installer. Select it.
11. Profit. :D

If that doesn't work, there may be a manual uninstaller in the Heroes 5 directory proper.

Thanks! There were complications, but with your advice and some experimentation, this finally allowed me to install it in a way that worked. And I still have my saves, very happy about that. :-)
