As i get older, (i am now 47) i find that quite a few games these days have 'broken' easy difficulty levels. But i need that easy difficulty level to learn and get into the game.

I do not know what game developers fail to understand about the meaning of the word 'EASY'???

GET IT RIGHT!

But on the whole, most of the time i spend on gaming i will spend playing 20/30 year old games that i am familiar with. Learning new games requires quite a high investment of time and energy, nevertheless, i usually try to learn a new game at least 1 every 3 or 4 months. The problem is, i am ALWAYS disappointed in the end. Modern games are ALWAYS too annoying.... what it is, with the older games, i am used to playing from a position of stability, Newer games seem to be designed to make the player uncomfortable - i am just not into that.

As a very good example, i like Warcraft 1 and 2 but i do not like Warcraft 3 - as you can understand, Warcraft 3 is more demanding for your attention in multiple directions all at the same time - i F__ING HATE that
Not at all. It has always been: RPG>FPS>Strategy (99% TBS) > Metroidvania and other than that i don't really play other genres only very rarely adventures

I like RPG's with depth, large amount of content and heavy stat crunching.

This sums it up i think.
Most definitely. I liked more action-y, twitchy, more difficult, less story kinda of games: FPS (like the "original" Counter Strike in LAN connections with friends); platforms, WoW raiding as healer, etc.

Now I *think* I sorta lost my reflexes (or other people's improved) over time and as I also developed mental health issues.... BUT I found out a huge list of game genres that I 'missed', that I favour now, including: cRPG, poin&click, strategy, etc.

But I play any game now... well as long as the 'survival' (which seems to be everywhere now) aspect of a game is not too *demanding*. :)

Yeah, I had a severe shoulder injury that lasted for 7 months last year... and got me to experiment with a lot of games that I'd never have tried otherwise... more strategy-oriented and turn-based.
Used to be turn based strategy. Never liked real time strategy. Then in 2014 I discovered Warband and so far thats my favourite type of game. I think a lot of it is management and also letting your troops do their thing. Also like Fallout 4 and Skyrim. For more than a decade I used to love sid meiers alpha centauri, master of orion 2, star trek birth of the federation and fallout 2.
I don't play RTS games anymore. I guess after DOTA and other MOBA game got popular, there were less and less good RTS games. It seems like they started copying each other too much, and there weren't that many good ones in the last few years, in my opinion. I still play the classics, like WarCraft, StarCraft, Red Alert and such, but the newer stuff, sadly no.
I used to like shooting FPSs, but I seem to don't care anymore especially with doom 4/5 and wolf3d 5/6/7/8. New FPSs just don't appeal to me. Doom and Heretic are still classic residents on my HD. I still enjoy those. I might get Amid Evil/ Dusk eventually.

My taste in rpgs, strategy, point n clicks haven't changed.

First, I'm sorry about your injury (hope all is good now?), but it's interesting how life throws some stuff at us and makes us change... in unexpected ways, like how we enjoy gaming. :)

DavidOrion93: doom 4/5 and wolf3d 5/6/7/8.
Those games don't exist.

Anyway, I played Doom and Doom II (never even got close to finishing them) in the 90s because they were "available". They made me realize that I don't like shooters. They had little interactivity - mostly just shooting monsters / whatever, "because" (Doom had a minimal txt file outline the story, if I remember well).

The first FPS I enjoyed was Half Life, because it had an integrated story. But nowadays... I wouldn't even play HL3 - because essentialy, if a game is mostly just about shooting stuff - it's boring.

Many thanks. Yes, quite better... but will never be 100% again (sadly). Funny thing is... moved away from console action gaming due to "frozen shoulder" (sounds fake, doesn't it?)... but then started having joint issues in my hand from mouse / PC gaming. Ha. Getting old.

I hope you've had progress with your issues as well. Having been there as well, sending positive energy your way.

mintee: used to like shooters and twitchy games with challenge, now i cant be arsed and would rather laze around with point and clicks and easy to play games
Oh, I missed your post, it would save time writing my own haha.
