There's a genre of certain games that while I can't mention them to open air, I'm sure we all knowingly know come with a few archetypes that I'll describe:

The ?????/dotted outline: This archetype isn't actually a character. If they even speak, it won't be voiced and it'll be anything anyone can say.

The fat ugly bloke: This one I don't get. They're allegedly said to be a self insert for the author, but why put in someone with ≤-0 overall charisma, into a product that will exist outside the author's personal desires?

Hair over the eyes: I don't see what effect hiding the eyes is supposed to have. You've given them all the other traits of a character, including things which would make them stand out from any crowd such as bright hair colors or pointy ears.

Maybe I've missed a certain archetype, but those seem to be the three most common. Do you know of any exceptions and can describe them without being too direct?
what
What in God's holy name are you blathering about?
I'm not sure if I'm understanding your first point correctly. Do you mean ???? as in, the character in question is both confused as surprised? and ........ indicating the character is silent? If so, I'm not seeing what the problem is?

I'm not sure where the fat ugly bloke trope is mentioned as an author insert. In my experience, such tropes are used to indicate the character is selfish, greedy etc and the creator is blatantly telling us "yeah, this character has no redeeming qualities, so don't like him". This one is actually very easy to understand and to me, it's an indicator of poor character design.

The hair over the eyes one can indicate there's something about the character we can't see, it's an outward sign that the character has some sort of mystery about them

Okay, so in just over two months or so, Succubus is coming out, which made me think about a certain genre of games and their protagonist archetypes.

In other words, tropes. But why would Succubus make you think about that, especially when certain protagonist archetypes in games can be identical in other forms of media? A games genre has no bearing on the tropes used for characters

Ok, but I can honestly say I have no idea what games those are.

The player, not the author...

He's being needlessly obtuse in describing hentai games; I really can't see any discussion value here.

I think mentioning 'genre' is misdirecting a lot of people here. Like you mentioned, archetype is a much better descriptor.
But yea I think after consuming enough media you'll begin to see patterns. It happens to be that the ones you outlined are one of the common ones. Although I've never heard of the fat ugly one being a self insert of the author.

I see it a lot in anime and superhero media. Japanese mainstream anime is hella guilty of this, but if it sells well, it's what the general population wants.

It might help to tell us what game these are from.
