PaterAlf: A second review showed up on Metacritic.com:

"Hatred is a very playable game for fans of adrenaline and bloody thrills, although the content of the game is a bit controversial. The game could be longer, more diverse and better optimized (Unreal Engine 4 is hungry for power). And given the overall quality Hatred did not deserve all the media buzz surrounding its development and most likely it won't be remembered in a few years' time."

Original source in Polish
I'd actually have liked some back story for the character as well as character development to make it seem less generic.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Sigma's straight Alien/Zombie-Shooters and isometric mouse+keyboard shooting is a lot of fun in itself, but since the game rode the whole "controversial"-wave, it should have a bit more content.
Does the story at least explain in some way why there are no children left in the world and is there any chance for a multiplayer mode where you can play the other side (police) or a second psycho? At least some simple deathmatch / capture the flag?

jefequeso: You know, this brings up an interesting idea... given that Hatred is basically just Postal 1 with modern visuals, and managed to get this amount of press, I'll bet someone could just reskin Chiller or Carmageddon and watch the free press roll in.

DCT: well Stainless Games did make a new Carmageddon but no one really noticed. The only reason why Hatred got noticed in the first place was because some mouth breathers decided to spam Valve about the game, saying it's racists and the devs are nazi's ect. Which gets the game pulled and hits the press and people notice the game and the devs a way to market the game. If that never happened I do not doubt no one would of given a damn, it would just popped up on Steam a few people would of bought it and that was that.

Honestly outside of the game being really painfully repetitive like Postal 1 was, enter level kill X people go to next stage, lather rinse repeat. It's really not that controversial, kill all the fags was more controversial and badly done to boot.

Sure the premise of a spree killer especially with the recent rash of spree shootings that had happened here in the States the past few years is still not that bad. a bit tasteless maybe. I don't know maybe it's because I've seen much, much worse subjects being turned into games and no one bats a eye because few people knew they even exist, like this concentration camp simulator and most stuff from neo nazi and other white supremacist groups.

Still my point is, had that initial incident with Steam not happened, I doubt anyone would of noticed but because it happened the devs started using it to work people into wanting to check out this game because it's so controversial and most not all are dumb enough to fall for it just for that reason alone. Again since alot of time you have to spell things out I am not saying all people who wanted or were interested in this game did so because of the controversy just that there became alot more who did because of it.
The whole Greenlight thing certainly helped, but IIRC Hatred already had gotten a fair amount of press attention for its release trailer alone (which came out right in the middle of the initial GamerGate blowup, and that certainly helped a lot too). The Greenlight thing wouldn't have even happened if people didn't already know about Hatred.

EBToriginal: Your next job is to watch A Serbian Film. Go on get to it.

catpower1980: In some way, Hatred is the "a serbian film" of video games : same marketing point and same end product....
There us probably a lesson of some sort buried here.

Really? huh, I honestly didn't hear or seen any of the stink about this game till after the Greenlight incident. That's when I noticed that this even existed. Then again I have since stopped reading gaming websites years ago because they had become just click bait bullshit by that point and now have become filled with social commentary nonsense. If your going to do social commentary then make sure you at least have a fucking clue what the hell your talking so you don't come off as say Fox News, the Today Show or any other major news program.

Sorry about that but yeah as I said the whole Greenlight incident was the first I heard of it. I think that's when TB talked about it either on the Co-optional pod or Content patch.

I have some questions:

- why ban the game?,
- where is our rights, where is our freedom to buy and sell everiting we want?, -
-this game is really harm anyone on the real life(the game is M for mature(adults not for kids))?,
- why the people are so sillly to compare kill polygons, to real tragedies?

for exemple why if GOG one day the say: "well we can't sell Guilty Gear serie because there is a travesti on it (bridget)" or we can't sell diablo saga because the amazone, the barbarian and the assasin are scantily clad, oh the sucubus, oh the inmorality!.

- where is the line then?

"I not like hatred", but I had seen much more violence on mortal kombat (this game is really disgusting for me) but I will never buy it too, because is my right like the customers of MK or Hatred have the right to buy it if they want.

then why not ban the news on tv, the movies (I had seen a lot of exemples of violence on it), why you not ban the stupid human nature, why you not ban the first enmendement of your contry (every contry has one, the mine has one)!

many of my friends in germany, are waching this polemic and the only they can do a national faceplam... because they had suffer the censoreship in their flesh, I'm 100% sure they would give anything for stop their politician decide what they can see and what they can't. I'm sure because I know many of these criminals (sarcasm), they play immoral games like Doom(It can't be posible!!), Wolfenstein(oh god!!), or Call of duty 1, 2 or world at war (inmorals)!!.

if this game is not published then do not complain when your first amendment (of your contry whatever is called) is crushed, you give the right to your politicians, you publisher, your store, the right to decided for others...

you are decided for the hatred customers then hatred customers will decide for you one day.

Well, it could be that the Greenlight incident was what really shot it into the public eye. I know there were articles written about it when the trailer released, though (that's when I first heard about it), and there was already debate about the game happening (at least between people on both sides of GamerGate).

You've just answered yourself. This is GOG exercising this right. Their right to sell what they want. Which is also the right to net sell what they don't want. It's that simple.

sharp299: snip
GOG has given no reason as to why they have rejected Hatred. Please, don't jump to conclusions.

whiout an answer to developers?, is unprofesional and deshonorable. then why they ask for a copy of the game if they not intend to sell it?

They asked for a copy, they tested the game and then they decided that they don't want to sell the game. We don't know the resons (Price? Content? Gameplay? Technical reasons? DRM?), but the developers probably know them. So nothing wrong with it.
Is that thread stickied ? :-|
