Happy Holidays from the GOG.com team!
The holiday season is here. The world, in all its little shopping frenzies and chaotic reunions, seems to slow down just a little. It slows to taste the crisp winter air, to be childishly entranced by all the lights and colors.

As for us, we're going to celebrate with a little something special.
With a new free game in our catalog: <span class="bold">Bio Menace</span>, something of a mix between the smooth and joyous gameplay of Commander Keen, and the alien weirdness of the original Duke Nukem platformers. The spacey 2D shooter by 3D Realms is now part of our selection of free, truly worth playing, classics.

With a Happy Holiday Sale from GOG.com & Bethesda:
Have a holly, jolly discount. It's the best time of the year. We don't know if there will be snow, but have a cup of deal. It's <span class="bold">up to 75% off the entire Bethesda catalog</span> on GOG.com - including the three and only classic Fallout games, as well as some of the best shooters in history: the retro Wolfenstein 3D & Return to Castle duo, The Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II & Final DOOM alongside the Quake series (from the singleplayer gory of Quake + Quake II, through the timeless mutliplayer mayhem of Quake III). Finally, there's the chance to explore the history of The Elder Scrolls with classics like Morrowind, Battlespire, and Redguard.

As always, any purchase from the Bethesda catalog on GOG.com comes with a free copy of The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall!

Looking for last-minute gifts? There ya' go.
The sale will last until December 29, 4:59 AM GMT.

Have a happy holiday season!
Who clicked on this hoping New Vegas, Dishonored or Skyrim was coming? :/

Was it you?

CharlesGrey: On topic: The freebie is a nice touch, but it's disappointing Bethesda and GOG apparently didn't come to an agreement about any new releases. Come on, Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Elder Scrolls: Oblivion? No?
avatar
Grargar: They'll have to leave some excitement for the next year, as well. ;)
But but but... I got money for it now... might not have it next year. :P

Keep them locked in a stash... away from lockpicking thieves.
Thank you 3D Realms for the freebie. Bring 'em all here while you're at it.

Nice discounts on the Bethesda games, no spending money at the moment unfortunately otherwise I'd grab RTCW. Here is hoping more Bethesda games continue to come in the future. Still an unbelievable catch.

Thank you GOG for a wonderful fucking release year, seriously I was losing hope a couple years ago, seemed like absolute stagnation. I hope we get another awesome set of releases for 2016, and please PLEASE fix your website... Please?

Crackpot.756: Thanks, quite elaborate.
Sounds like it wouldn't bore me like Oblivion did. Not sure what it was about that game, but after a few hours of wandering I just couldn't be bothered anymore. Meanwhile, Skyrim made me feel like nothing mattered; the only difference between playthroughs is what skills you use. How's Morrowind with choices and consequences?
The biggest choices are to follow the main story at all, going with certain guild factions, staying as a vampire or continue the main story, and becoming a werewolf or not. As a vampire, only some of the Ashland native inhabitants and Telvanni mages will be okay with you, but there is a unique vampire questline. The story elements outside of Solstheim come to a stop as a werewolf. If NPC's die, they stay dead, and many guild factions make you kill NPC's... Sometimes even opposing leaders.

Caius Cosades offers you the first part of your main quest, but they can conflict with others. Your opportunities are limited, depending on how far along you are in certain quest lines. You will have a certain reputation, depending on which paths and guilds you pursue. The locals tend to like you better if you go with the local temple and House Redoran, and the Imperials like you better if you go with the imperial cult and House Hlaluu. Acting a certain way can make some NPC's come back to help you, or haunt you later on. You are a foreigner, so you will sometimes be attacked by the locals along the main quest, and whether you act in kind or run/seek another solution can change how quest lines are resolved.

Ultimately, one may face their destiny (or not) on Red Mountain, but Vivec, the God-King of Vvardenfell, will judge you on their own.

liamphoenix: Skyrim, Fallout 3, and New Vegas would be nice though. Especially as they all have Steam and I can't just pop in the CD/DVD like with my older Bethesda games.
avatar
Grargar: My Fallout 3 disc doesn't require Steam.
It would be great if GOG could get either Fallout 3 or New Vegas! :P

StickOfPlywood: ...
Thanks again!
Sounds like it actually matters what you do. Also sounds like I could fuck myself over by making decisions - funnily enough, I consider that to be a good thing. Guess I'll give it a shot, after gathering some mods.

dtgreene: I believe skills are only limited to the attribute when you are training.

Also, the game uses the current values of your skill and attribute while training, so there are some shenanigans you can pull with fortify and/or drain effects. Note that you can train a skill above 100 this way, but it won't increase (but will count toward level advancement). Also, don't forget that magicka resistance affects drain effects, even those you cast on yourself.

Morrowind is full of exploits like these.

Maxvorstadt: Hm, do you know which is the max character level one can reach in Morrowind?
Thanks to the exploit I mentioned, you can gain as many levels as you want, at least until integer overflow occurs (which would take a long time).

I hear that being thrown in jail might lower some skills (which can be regained, which counts toward level advancement) and raise certain thief skills (which will count toward level advancement, even if the skill is already 100).

Note: It is possible that your HP might overflow before your level does, and that could easily cause you to die right away.

If you want to see integer overflow, the fastest way would be to use the so-called "soul trap" glitch to permanently raise your Alchemy high, then create Fortify Intelligence or Fortify Luck potions, which you can drink and then create more potions (which grow exponentially in power with each iteration). Eventually, your Intelligence or Luck will overflow, though I hear the stat needs to pass 2 billion for that to happen.

I haven't played Skyrim, but I have seen a video in which integer overflow happened due to the Fortify Restoration exploit in that game.
This is not my opportunity to buy Skyrim, disappointing.

CharlesGrey: addressing an adult customer using "du" is generally considered rude, and just feels like adding insult to injury in this context.
..or it's part of the CI like IKEA is doing... ;-)

Indeed, neither does mine. Nor my GotY Discs either. :)

I should probably grab Morrowind, I guess.
I don't like the way many games say ADD TO YOUR CART when I already own them. What gives?
I love a good freebie!
I remember getting the Shareware version of this right around the same time Blake Stone came out.

Grargar: Quake 2 has music by default. It's only the first Quake that has the music issue. As for a magic autopatch, hansschmucker's one-click audioextractor is probably the closest we can get. You might end up needing a source port, though.
avatar
omega64: Does Quake II force you to mount an ISO to have a soundtrack like the first one does?
avatar
Grargar: Nope.
Thank you for your complete answer, wise cat. +1
I have to reconsider my hesitation !
