Kwproctor: My phone is a Motorola moto E 4 plus (Android 7.1.1 and has 2 GB ram) but Google Play says it isn't compatible. Are their any other requirements not mentioned?
avatar
krakataul: This is from Gwent website, hope it helps:
"Only Android devices using Android 7.0 (Nougat) or newer, with 2 GB RAM or more and using OpenGL ES 3.2 or higher are supported.
If you see the "Your device is incompatible with this version" notification on Google Play when trying to pre-register, your Android device is not supported."

and:
"Currently we're supporting over 3000 different Android devices and constantly working on extending this list"
Thank you. My phone is OpenGL ES 3.0 so it's not going to work.

To GOG: Phone drivers are Crap, you need to list ALL the requirements when releasing a game for phones.
For shits and giggles, I decided to try GWENT on my cheapo Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) phone.

I can't even find "gwent" on Play Store, adding it to the search box. :( As if it is filtered away. I have Android 7.1.1, and I think 2GB RAM.

Oh well, no GWENT for me then. No one can blame me for not trying! I did my best, or at least half of my best.

Leonard03: If you don't care about Gwent, then don't read the announcement. It's not that hard, lol.

Fwiw, if anyone is on the fence about trying this out, you really should. Great game, plays pretty well on mobile.
Im new to GOG, and my first impression is that the mayority of its comunnity is made of... how do i put it ... impulsive individuals.

Let me clarify:

Gwent is a great game to play, 95% of people commenting haven't played the game at all and they complain about it. My mind is puzzled by the sheer ignorance

Impetuously hating on microtransactions is not very bright: Every free game has them because they dont work for free, that's a pretty easy concept to learn.

However its absolutely NOT pay to win, not even in the slightest, in fact it's the best game i've seen that is free to play and doesn't force you to pay a single penny, in fact, you get most skins for free!

Do they really expect a free and incredibly polished game to not have any way of getting money? So basically the company has to be made of slaves, or economic illiterates for you to like it?

I strongly hope people in this community wake up from this pit of mind-blowing ignorance.

Ps: It is CDPR that pays GOG servers to host them, like COD WARZONE pays Blizzard for battle.net servers, absolutely nothing wrong with that, unless you hate two companies working together to give you a game.

Not *every* free game.

Still not correct. Some are genuinely free (usually also open source).

Lifthrasil: Because Gwent is an atrocity that stands against everything that GOG used to stand for. It has DRM, it is based on ripping off customers with microtransactions and it opened the gate for other games with DRM. So far 'only' multiplayer-games. But that's bad enough. GOG used to reject games that require third-party accounts for multiplayer or have other multiplayer DRM. They used to be actually DRM-free. Then GWENT created a precedent and opened the floodgates for multiplayer-DRM. Therefore I would prefer if Gwent wouldn't exist. Or at least Gwent shouldn't be distributed via GOG. There is a dedicated Gwent homepage and CDPR can happily distribute it via that. Or via Steam, it fits there. But it collided with the principles of GOG and sadly GOG decided that those principles are not important anymore.
You can always hide it. And to be fair, Thronebreaker is pretty good.

Welcome!

Some of us here aren't complaining about the gameplay itself (though that is its own debate). Instead, the criticism is that a game like GWENT which requires persistent connection does not belong on a store that is DRM-free since DRM-free implies not needing such things.

In fact, GOG has a "sister site" called FCKDRM.com. Last I looked, the standard for other sources of DRM-free media to be featured on that site is "100% DRM-free". The site contrasts how DRM causes people to have to rely on internet connection and is detrimental to game preservation in the long term.

This store is one of very few DRM-free game storefronts, and is the only one that sells many "big releases" (like the recent Evil Within 2 release). Hence why it is important to keep pointing out any DRM or DRM-like stuff when we see it. If GWENT was simply a mobile game, or on developer's own site, none of us would really mind.

DadJoke007: I can't wait to not play this game on another platform.

Thanks. :)

(Sidenote: I also likely could've done the entire seuss story ala gwent style, but felt that was sufficient/good enough)

While you are technically correct (and I understand the importance of being precise in discussions like this), I think we also know that no major publisher is going to release a major game project completely for free without some very extenuating circumstances, so it's really not relevant to this discussion.

This doesn't make sense to me. A game like Gwent (ftp) can't work without DRM, there needs to be some sort of online verification or people will just cheat the system. The only way to make it work without DRM is to entirely change the game, by making it single player or similar (which for what it's worth, they did with Thronebreaker)

As far as I can tell, this basically boils down to; any free-to-play game can't exist on the GOG platform. This is a nice idea, but I think, somewhat unrealistic considering the current video game market. As long as games that shouldn't require DRM (so literally anything that is single player) don't have DRM, I don't see what the problem is.
If somebody wants to start playing Gwent and would like to receive some additional rewards here is my recruitment link:

https://www.playgwent.com/en/invite-a-friend/E9XDV79CT6

Rewards include Premium Kegs, Reward Points, Arena Tickets and Legendary Premium Cards.
To get them you will need to install the game using my link above and then reach some milestones.
