Fever_Discordia: Alice 2 or whatever it's called - the Madness... does something...
avatar
Ghorpm: No, I've never played any of those
At first I thought Skyrim but those were giants with clubs and throwing you afar would kill you as you'd end up in this sky and then drop down insta-dead. ;)

Second thought was Dark Souls, but there you don't need potions to beat an enemy, you could beat them without it.

So...does the game have RPG aspects?

Green_Hilltop: No idea in that case, I haven't played that many RTS games.

ZFR: Oooh, it's one of my favourite genres. Though I play the fantasy/medieval setting more, I've done my share of sci-fi too.

Haven't played a lot of the recent ones though, so I'll ask: when was it published? Pre 1995, 1995-2005 or post 2005?
I used to like them too but now they are mostly time-wasters for me, unless they have a really, really good story that I'd enjoy fighting and a good strategic gameplay that isn't like in AoE ("buy x of this unit, send them that way..."). Now if there was a one where you could have really a lot of strategic options, maybe I'd enjoy that one (I think I recall Red Alert or something like that also allowed you to use the terrain more and build various devices?).

Nope, no RPG here. And technically you don't need that potion, you can win this fight without it. It's just really difficult

So Dark Souls is out.

Maybe...Darksiders?

Right so I'm thinking of non-RPG hack n' slash games - I can actually think of quite a few, I'll start with

Blade of Darkness?
(aka Severance)

I got it before it was removed but I haven't even installed it yet. So the answer is no ;)
What weapons do you get to use? Historical (stone club/longsword/longbow/spear), modern (guns/grenades), magical(wands/voodoo dols) or some other?

Definitely historical. But as the potion and ogres suggest it's a fantasy world.
Rune?

Fever_Discordia: Rune?
Trail and error approach? ;P Well, better luck next time ;P

OK, that rules out Serious Sam and the like.
Die by the Sword?
avatar
Sanjuro: Die by the Sword?
Yup, that's the one. Somewhere in Orc Stronghold to be more exact ;)
I never actually played it, so the guess was based on a speedrun I saw on Youtube.
Anyway, there's a game I bought sometime around the winter sale and here's the situation on one of the starting levels:

"Treachery! We were taken by surprise and many of us were killed. But I swear, no matter how well the traitor hides, no matter how many soldiers he surrounds himself with, I will find him and by my sword justice shall be served. His castle shall become his tomb."

LOL that one was on my list too!

As I said before: better luck next time ;P

And seriously, Die by the Sword deserves to be played. It's not easy to get used to the controls but after that it's very rewarding to chop off an ogre's head :D
