kohlrak: Frankly, what's going on here is that non-corporations are trying to use corporate strategies without the corporate shield and end up getting a corporate legal team on their asses.
Having corporate shield and a team of devil's advocates (lawyers) will not help against IP rights holders. Many fan projects were announced in advance and still living, still unfinished. And I'm glad that they are willing to bring fans together, for instance I'm very interested in OpenTESArena and XWVM. Any project can be closed any moment on a whim of the holder, this will not save it from destruction if announced later. Another Metroid 2 Remake was closed in a few days after final release, Streets of Rage fan game was closed soon after the final build. I can still download and play them any moment I want. Hell, I can even play No One Lives Forever from Nightdive Studios right now, no one will stop me.

When I heard about it, I was under the impression that they were releasing the 1.0 version of each reverse engineering, and only bugs and a few extra features were missing.

I'm hoping to see some article soon investigating appropriately if they are using some assets from GTA 3 and Vice City or if the whole DMCA thing is just Take Two being incredibly evil.

And if they are using assets, if it's something easy to remove/replace so that we can have the ports back.
GTA3 had a source code leak? How'd that happen?

There is no source leak, this is a reverse engineering project.
Did anyone here get reVC release build before the takedown? I didn't expect the reverse engineering to be stricken so I only got the GTA 3 one. I couldn't find it anywhere trustable after.

EDIT: I seem to have found it in a Reddit thread. It didn't trigger Windows Defender when I scanned it though. Whenever I decide to play Vice City again, I'll give it a try.
