Lots of great and interesting answers. Plenty I haven't tried or in some cases even heard of so I'll be sure to check them out. I have always heard good things about Fate of Atlantis but never got around to trying it so maybe it's about time.

To finish things off before announcing a winner I'll also give my answers:

1. The first point and click I played was The Legend of Kyrandia: Malcolms Revenge back when I was a child. I recall it being quite challenging (maybe my age was a part of that though) but I did eventually get through it with some help from my dad. While it perhaps isn't the best of the series and has a number of flaws it does remain very memorable to be. Later on I received Escape from Monkey Island for my birthday which despite it's clunkiness introduced me to the series and LucasArts point and click games in general.

2. It's tough to actually pick a favourite as there are plenty that I love for different reasons but to try and narrow it down a bit it would be a toss up between the following:
- Curse of Monkey Island - Hard to decide between this and the first two games which are also great but I really enjoyed the art style here along with the addition of voice acting (compared to the original MI1/2 at least). Also, there's Murray :)
- The Longest Journey - Intriguing story and setting though I'll admit some of the puzzles are a bit questionable.
- Day of the Tentacle - Wacky characters and a fun time travel mechanic with a silly plot about a power hungry tentacle.
- Grim Fandango - Great atmosphere and memorable characters.

Anyway, with that it's time to wrap things up and announce a winner. Each person that entered will be given a number based on order or posting and then I'll put that into random.org to pick a winner.

CarChris: I'm in, thank you for the chance! +1

1. What was the first point and click game that got you into the genre?
Although I had played 2-3 other adventure games before it, it was the first Syberia game that made me to actually like the genre.

2. What is your favourite point and click game?
This is more difficult, as I like all Syberia games, Secret Files games, and Broken Sword games.
Congratulations, you are the random winner. I'll PM you the code shortly.

Thank you to everyone else for participating :)

I'm NOT IN as I already have Grim Fandango, a great noir journey, but I'll answer anyway as I love the genre.

First games were Day of The Tenticle and Sam and Max but I couldn't progress with either so gave up quickly. The first game I finished and still 1 of my favourite games of all time is Broken Sword and I played and finished all 5.

Underrated games if you haven't played

Cognition and Erica Reed Thriller
The Raven
Hector Badge of Carnage
I also really liked Moebus, as imperfect as it is, because Jensen is a great story teller

Most recently I've completed Yesterday, which has interesting plot twists and I started Yesterday Origins but am really struggling to get into the user interface.

EDIT Snizzle reminded me the first actual P&C game was Kyrandia and you could make the game unfinishable by eating an apple if I remember rightly (or wrongly...) not a great game
Congratulations to CarChris :)

Yesterday- IMO really a very good game, brilliant, full of humor and cultural references, with puzzles that match the conventions of the world.

Yesterday Origins is just a good game, except for the character research 3D interface, which is cumbersome to use and adds nothing interesting to the mechanics.
