Darvond: Well, as the post implies, there are people who are vehemently anti-google.
Because who wouldn't want a huge corporate company that already spies on you through your phone and search results and reads your emails to have access to your payment process method too....

It's not like they haven't claimed utter distain for certain people, or say they can swing the election through manipulation, or are actively censoring people they don't like, or have a near complete monopoly over ads or anything, and have intentionally vauge terms in Youtube so they can ban you, and it's not like they are now making it impossible to enter the partnership program so they can take all the ad revenue...

AstralWanderer: You can't use Paypal now without allowing the braintreegateway.com domain (blocking it will give you a "Service Unavailable" message when selecting Paypal) so you have another third party tracker there.

The biggest complaint I would raise about this is that it is now compulsory to submit to Google tracking in order to pay (directly) by credit card. Previous occurrences (like the use of Google Analytics, Facebook and Twitter links) could be blocked by knowledgeable users, courtesy of browser plugins like Privacy Badger or uBlock.
Agreed on the second part, but a slight correction on the first one - Braintree is a service of PayPal since 2013 (you can check the Wikipedia article, or just do a search for Braintree).
oh god these companies really like to push their faces into everywhere

But you have to allow Google scripts to run to redeem a code anyway at the moment!

bumping, in case anyone still follow this thread - as for the moment of writing this, payment form doesnt require you to enable anything google-related to pay with card. Anymore. Just adyen's own scripts (payment page also has rollbar and googletagmanager scripts, but you can safely disable them globally, as they appear on all gog pages and seem to do nothing but collect some developer metrics). So... yeah - it took them a while, but seems like problem is kinda solved now?
Really? Will try adding a fiver to my wallet tonight.
Would you believe that! Payment works again.

§pectre: If data protection laws had been made or enforced properly it should have whacked these schemes before they became an issue.

...
yeah, if, if ... if, you know, if ifs and buts were candies and nuts.
Hurrah, just did the more enjoyable part of voting with my wallet. Thanks for the heads-up.
