Most times back in the day, it was a reference to the network card for most people in my little group. I do seem to remember having to unplug it occasionally for odd reasons. That could have been from programs I was using that I shouldn't had though.

Or a backup of the original exe's and dll files, which effectively would be the original game. (minus any stupid DRM incorporated therein)
mystikmind2000: i would say it is a very good reason to keep an old computer.... that and one day when someone finally manages a virus that kills modern OS, chances are it probably wont affect very old computers! Some years ago i wondered that too. I thought maybe we were moving too fast, and if something happened backtracking to getting the current level of tech and bootstrapping seemed like it would be a pain.
Though i'd really like to see the day when the graphine chips are available.

You can easily tell when your using any of the networking devices.... that will be the time you will find yourself muttering swearwords in frustration trying to get it to work..... Networking is the biggest issue that makes me miss windows 98 the most! .... got a network problem in 98? You can easily trouble shoot it.... it will be the f---ing IP address, its always the IP address..... Got a network problem in windows 10.... hey no prob, use the network troubleshooter.... HAHAHAHAHA, OMG that's funny!!!!!!!!!!!!, no seriously, just RUN, RUN as fast as you can and dont look back, because your doomed!
