I must admit that this practice has entirely passed me by.
i.... no.
I'm actually quite torn about this. On one hand Steam Trading cards are a nice way to fuel game buying addiction using other games. On the other hand, many people don't like them. I kinda do.

Don't give them such ideas.

Cards in a model like Valve's only open ways to exploitation. I hope to never see them here, along with any kind of metagaming, gambling, medals, profile "levels" and such.

Agreed with that. GOG should avoid following Valve's marketing system. Instead, it should develop its unique features to mark the difference.
No, just no. Let GOG be serious gaming store, not some bazaar for little kids.

I think it would undermine as GOG as a curated store, since trading cards are mostly used by shady devs to make money on their shitty mass-produced games. GOG having such a system would attract them here and whichever team play tests the submissions would be drowning in them.

If the real objective of TC was to create an investment in the store by playing a game brought in it, there are other ways of doing that that don't involve creating an underworld of retarded asset flipping thugs.

I don't care for it, but I don't think it would matter if such a thing were implemented.
Please no.

I'm horrified by how Valve handled the thing, creating a submarket for the cards, the emoticons, the skins of the games, with microtransactions that only serve to further fatten Gabe.
Cards that have to be farmed by spending hours playing and that are obtained by "luck", and also you can never get all of them and you have to buy the rest with real money. No thanks.

In fact I've always wondered why nobody has ever complained about this horrible practice, it's the worst of the worst of the microtransactions.

Obviously I would agree if GOG implemented its user friendly system, based on the actual ability of a player and his commitment to a particular game, cutting out all the microtransactions that are completely useless.
But I would prefer even more if they add their own original system, such as a trophy room: each trophy is unlocked when you reach 100% of the achievements of one game. That would be very nice.
Wouldn't this be Galaxy-dependent?
My distaste for the card system on Steam as it has been implemented is <self censored>. For me, it is a con for a game to have the cards.
