50 games for the free OS available right NOW!

A while ago, [url=http://www.gog.com/news/gogcom_soon_on_more_platforms]we've announced our plans to add Linux support as one of the features of our digital platform, with 100 games on the launch day sometime this fall. We've put much time and effort into this project and now we've found ourselves with over 50 titles, classic and new, prepared for distribution, site infrastructure ready, support team trained and standing by, and absolutely no reason to wait until October or November. We're still aiming to have at least 100 Linux games in the coming months, but we've decided not to delay the launch just for the sake of having a nice-looking number to show off to the press. It's not about them, after all, it's about you. So, one of the most popular site feature requests on our community wishlist is granted today: Linux support has officially arrived on GOG.com!

The first 50+ titles we've have in store for you come from all the corners of our DRM-Free catalog. Note that we've got many classic titles coming officially to Linux for the very first time, thanks to the custom builds prepared by our dedicated team of penguin tamers. That's over twenty fan-favorite GOG.com classics, like &[url=http://www.gog.com/game/flatout_2]Flatout 2, , <a href="http://www.gog.com/game/darklands">Darklands, or Realms of the Haunting we've personally ushered one by one into the welcoming embrace of Linux gamers. That's already quite a nice chunk of our back-catalog, and you can expect more from our dedicated Linux team soon!

Now, for the recent titles. We've got some indie games with native Linux versions that finally find their well-deserved spot in our store. Among them, debuting on Linux, - a well received original comedic Sci-Fi puzzler. It is very gratifying we have other alternatives to Steam for Linux, I have talked to many people I met and many say that sometimes prefer to buy new games for Linux on GOG because in other countries the games are more affordable than on Steam. Well I'm starting now on GOG and Linux and I see that everyone is very welcoming.

As long as Galaxy for Linux is not a thing, my Steam library (over 1000 games, mostly Linux native) will just keep growing. Each day that passes with GOG "supporting" Linux being mostly just a lie increases the chances that even IF Galaxy ever comes to Linux, I may STILL never buy from here.

nrq: What are you talking about? They already forgot about Linux. Sure they sell some Linux compatible games but lack of interest in developing Galaxy for this platform is telling a lot there. And I don't blame them. Gaming on Linux is still far behind Windows unfortunately.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut, Grim Dawn, Dishonored, Prey, DOOM, Grim Dawn, NieR: Automata South Park: The Stick of Truth, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition, Age of Empires II (2013), Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition, Wolfenstein: The New Order etc.

All these games and others currently run on Linux with the same performance as on Windows. "Gaming on Linux is still far behind Windows unfortunately" is a quote from years ago.

Because of Windows 10 i'm moving as far away from MS as possible, so this is perfect news for my slow shift towards gaming on Linux (i'm keeping Windows 7 for gaming until i get my head around linux gaming).

So thank you very much for this GOG, the second great bit of news today from you towards your customers :D

Mint XFCE currently (on desktop and laptop). I started with Cinnamon. Mint is great for ex windows users, and the forum really friendly and helpful :)

Please make workable GOG Galaxy for Linux, any linux distro will do, our communities will adapt to any other distro that people want/need.
I made an account and bought my first game here today in the hopes if i support you guys, you will come atleast half way.

There's plenty of games that work on linux, problem is that we need a good alternative to steam (for offline play that whatever they want to say, they do not have, in win nor linux).

So again, please listen to the community and come half way and give us the premission/tools that we ourselves will make the interface like many already have sugested in this thread.
Even with the most upscarce software has been saved and made work better than on original platforms on linux than anywhere else by the communities.
My countries governmental ID system software barely works on windows (any windows), it rans smooth on Linux (as linux version is fixed by community as government representives allowed them to do that, also all, both linux and win code is opensource to have a better security and honesty what the system does.)
Same could be with GOG you still own it and regulate it but allow by open soursing most of the code (ui mostly, you still can do the security part yurselves if you wish).

Yust give the linux communities the chance and they wont let you down (before any releace of any kind you still can have the say, "yes" or "no").

In any event, is the more common gaming on Windows a reason to forsake the growing popularity of Linux? Even if GoG doesn't have, or want to dedicate, the resources to making a Linux version of Galaxy, why not provide the necessary code to allow the dedicated Linux Devs to create something. It could still be reviewed by GoG to make sure it fits certain criteria.

It wasn't that long ago there was a GoG client even though it spun up Wine. It was a start. Just sad they pulled it.
Sounds like a perfect project for third-party Linus-like Goglodytes.

Developing "Gog Galaxy 2.0" for Linux means, instantly compatible for all OS!
For the same job, more compatibility for the future, and less BUG to manage.
Then why didn’t we do that?

I contacted developers to ask them why your native Linux games sold on GOG, only have the Windaub version!
They said they did not have the human or financial resources to do it!
I concluded that the packaging of GAME.sh had to be done by the developer of the game.

My personal opinion. GOG does not know the benefits of using Linux!
GOG sells bonus Linux products, it does not participate, unlike Steam.
Or the itch.io application that works very well on my Linux Mint.

Why is linux good? It looks exactly the same as windows just way less games supports it.
