rz4: So I got this problem first when I bought Riddick some time ago. My internet connection was pretty sh*tty back that time so it took hours to download the damn game. And it wouldn't download correctly... it didn't matter if I was using GoG downloader or I tried through the browser it always ended in a failure. So I tried again and again and for the 6-7th time it finally downloaded without any error or missing file.
Now I have a much better internet connection so I thought there wouldn't be any problem when I purchased SWAT 3 but I was wrong once again. I can't download it though the browser because it always ends in an error display saying I run too many things at once (which I don't) and the downloader just stops merely second before it would finish downloading the game and it stays that way no matter what I do.
So I search around in the support section and what do I find again and again? Use galaxy. That's the solution. Use the 100% optional client because without it you won't be able to access the game you just purchased. Well no GoG, I won't use your client because I don't want to. I don't care if it's the most awesome thing ever created I won't install another client, I'm sick of them.
In the end I just torrented the thing under 2 min. then deleted the torrent client. I was done in about 10 minutes. No hassle, no extra crap to run in the backround. And don't even start about how torrent is stealing 'cause I bought the game, I just couldn't access it and that is a pretty big problem if you ask me.
Please GoG continue to support your downloader. I like this site, I like that you sell games without DRM but if I have to get the game I purchase here illegally just to play it...I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
GOG is not forcing anyone to use Galaxy. You're having a valid problem with your own setup perhaps which others are not experiencing and you might be upset about that. Software can be frustrating at times and we all experience problems over time, but be careful to not have an emotional over-reaction about it like this. It is simply not true.
The GOG downloader does still work, as does the GOG website and thousands of people use both every single day to download games here. If it did not work, the forums would be flooded with angry comments like yours, but it is just not happening.
Whatever the problem is that you are having, there is something about it that is unique to your personal situation and not a generalization that affects every user. It could be a problem with your computer, your OS, your router, or something else but it isn't happening for everyone. Instead of being angry about it and lashing out it would be much more productive to try to provide details and find a solution, probably by directly contacting GOG support.
I can however state categorically that I can download games from GOG within Firefox, Chrome, GOG Downloader and Galaxy without any problems whatsoever 99.9% of the time, and whenever there are any problems they are temporary and either resolve themselves, or a quick note to support or in the "What did just break" thread, or a bug report in Mantis bug tracker usually ends up with it getting fixed if it is a problem on their end.
If you're going to be angry about it, be angry at the problem, not at the company. Anger and blame never solves problems.
