Hello! I know that GOG does have exclusive pre-order content (whether in-game or goodies), so I'd like to ask if this is only for 'new' games, contemporary games that come out at the same time on GOG as on Steam. When it comes to old games, classics and more recent titles that have already been available on Steam for some time, I infer they are released without prior notification, right? They just pop up one day on the front page, I think. So pre-purchasing these titles is impossible, therefore they are not lacking in content? So someone who is serious about having complete games should only be concerned with then-new games that were added after 27 March 2012, which is when GOG announced they would sell newer games? Thank you for your time.

In short, no. Content comes and content goes. Older releases were chock full of extras, some of which sprouted additional rightsholders on occasion, who complained and the content was removed. Later, GOG said (?) they implemented a fix so that existing owners aren't affected by removals going forward, which on one hand is good, but on the other hand means what you have on GOG might not be the best edition compared to what other people have on GOG at the same time. There have also been reports of previously owned extras being removed anyway.

edit: I've just been reminded the situation with Loom doesn't have anything to do with preorders and ephemeral rights but it arguably has the distinction of the lowest "quality of GOG product / quality of original game" ratio. So research everything before buying, even on GOG.

How infuriating. No one can own a complete product in this day and age. It's honestly pathetic. At least, is there a place that archives what released GOG games came with what? Just a list of all goodies per game, at least. Does anything like that exist?

What I said about only new games released on GOG (starting in 2012) having the ability to have had pre-order exclusive content is still true, right? That's the logical conclusion I've made, but these practices have proven to be less than logical.
