The infamous AI of the game can be easily improved, by removing the letter 'A' from a config file. Further, the game and all of its DLC has been sold for as little as $3, without DRM. I think that GOG should get the rights to sell the game, along with permission to officially include an unofficial overhaul that improves the game.

Aside from a way to release a game that is superior to the Steam edition, the negotiations to sell the game would likely involve SEGA. Properties perceived as low value by their owner makes it easier to 'get a foot in the door', which means that GOG can start talking to SEGA about releasing their catalog on GOG.

This is an opportunity that GOG ought to capitalize on.

Without DRM?

Given it's SEGA and Gearbox... you sure about that?
At the very least, Denuvo-free according to a curation group. I very much hope that GOG can strike a deal with SEGA, since there is a ton of their modern games that come Denuvo-laden. Freeing those games from Denuvo's clutches would be very nice.

Besides, we got DRM-free Gearbox games on GOG - namely, Homeworld Remastered. Considering how ACM is the detested child of Gearbox, they won't particularly care about what happens to that property. That would make it much easier for GOG to get official permission to use a modder's overhaul as a default part of the package, among other details.
I remember this game being voted worst big budget game of the year....but if you say it has been fixed since it could get a new life on GOG if it came bundled with fixes.
To be fair, the fixed bug only affected the Alien AI. Apparently the Weyland-Yutani AI is still broken. Also there were a lot of complaints about the story being bad. The game remains a mess, though I'm still impressed with the modders' efforts to fix everything that can be fixed.

I must say, I don't see how that pertains to the game suddenly being made available DRM-free.
I have no words.

Other than "WHAT THE *#($*!?"
They cut the code.
