hi
in sept 2014 I've posted a message about Z http://www.gog.com/forum/general_archive/reload_again_one_more_time_for_the_hundredth_time_in_the_infinty_by_the_eternity/post1.

Reading it today I find the title a bit too long and I let my ICQ number. I don't use this soft anymore (I find Facebook has a more friendly interface for IM) so I wanted to edit the message to remove the UIN and alter its title but unlike my recent post there's no Edit button.
Moreover this message doesn't appear in My post tab neither online nor in Galaxy.

Is it stored on an other DB, another server ?

What can be done ?

Very likely it's a separate table that has the same fields as the main forums. The difference is mostly that it's primarily read-only (or append-only). Potentially it could also be compressed fields as they are less likely to be accessed and to save space (but space is cheap anymore so that's probably not it).

Most likely contacting support and talking to them to change the specific post would be the best option. As for what you want the UIN to be, either [s]strike it[/s] (which isn't native BBcode for GoG) or replace it with x's or something. Or appending a note to the end saying the UIN is no longer in use.

It's entirely possible they could move the archived thread to the current general, then re-archive it after it's seen it's time and had a chance to be added to.

But that's a few random rambling thoughts of what you could do. Good luck with it.

Correct, the archive is read-only for us common users, that's (partially) why it's called an archive. I would assume that the blues can modify the archive, so if it's very important for you that you have correct info there (where I assume few people actually look) I would suggest that you ask one of them.

Or you could create a new thread and refer to that one instead of the old one which no one can post in.

I still have my number, but no one talks to me on it... so i don't know...

Then reading the agreement, they say that anything you send through ICQ they can claim ownership to and use... So Meh. I haven't really used it since... 2000?

I'm fairly certain my first ICQ account was/is 5645390, can't remember the second one (which I got due to forgetting teh password to the first one, then I suddenly managed to access the first one again after a few years), but it has 8 digits rather than 7.

I stopped using both when MSN Messenger became the preferred method of communication among my then-friends. Since then, friendships have been lost, new ones been acquired, and communication utilities have split up into dozens of different platforms. All the while I'm stubbornly trying to converge most of it into the age-old e-mail thing that kids today barely know what it's for (other than "it's required for signing up to some of the communication services").

One reason i really like using Pidgin, it accepts dozens of API's for different chat clients, ranging from ICQ and IRC, to Yahoo and MSN. However MSN is kinda dead since Microsoft moved to Skype. Skype on the otherhand doesn't work on Pidgin due to the proprietary format, so i don't use skype. Still regardless what platform/preferred messenger, pidgin does everything i basically need, and without annoying ads.

Yeah, I used to use Trillian (and even paid for the "Pro" edition before it became a subscription), but the protocols it supports seem to have fallen out of favour.

My family, sadly, decided on using Viber. I don't particularly enjoy being required to share my contacts list with an application that sends it to the service's servers just to check if anyone else on my contacts list have the service (it uses the phone number to identify users, doesn't offer the option to not share the contacts list, and I'd rather keep separate services completely separate).
