I've been using GOG for a while now & I must say, I'm liking it much more than Steam. Who's with me on this?

That depends entirely on what you mean by "better."

GOG is better in terms of offering DRM-free offline installers for some of its games.

In every other possible aspect, however, then Steam is way better.
True, but being smacked on the head with flaming baseball bat by a hyperactive gorilla is better than Steam. The bar isn't set very high.
Hold on.

Wow, that's a funny suggestion, heh. [Image]

The fact is, this place has less features than most internet forums than the 2000s. But uh, the forums are a bit of a neglected bonsai project, we'll say.

That still means the reviews aren't great since you can't find & revise them, the game cards are cluttered and disorganized, there's no quick way to get news or information on a game, the changelogs on game cards are often outdated, the installers are bloated & slow; using a temperamental method of installation that assumes C:, the Linux support of GOG is practically non-existent by comparison, and if you dare try to upload anything that isn't an already compressed JPEG as your avatar; the fool who you are.

And that's just a few things I could idly think of off the top of my head.

I'm with you OP! Been 99% GOG-only for many years now. :D

How'd you find out about GOG?

For me, it was No Man's Sky release. People were discussing whether to get it on Steam vs buy from devs directly vs DRM-free from GOG. Until that moment, I had no idea video games on Steam were DRMed, or that GOG existed. It was a life changing moment, haha
I can not compare them, as I never used Steam: I only buy DRM-free games.
Steam makes a lot of things easier for its users. But some of them are already so dependent on the platform that they can't do anything on the PC.
Caralho sim!
Steam has a better website (GOG used to have an advantage in the website category but they messed up big time), much better game selection, better online features (not that i care), superior linux support, SteamOS, steam deck console thingy...

GOG...

Offline installers

No need for client bloatware

Uh...

Right, older games actually work on older OSs (win XP, 7...) steam client broke that, but on the other hand steam provides better linux support that is almost non existent here so...

And i think that's it.

Basically GOG is awful (with one dumb decision away from dying, or one smart decision from the competitors) with only offline installers holding it a float. They do well to remember that!

I'm surprised you didn't censor yourself when saying "Steam". Is it possible that you have come to reality?
I used to think like this right after I discovered and only bought games on GOG.
But then I learned that many Steam games are also DRM-Free and can be backed up offline or 'made DRM-Free' with the correct community tools.

Now I try to shop on both and balance and preferably buy on GOG, but when Steam has a better price or exclusive that I want really much, with a bit of research I learn if said game can be made DRM-Free and then I buy it there. (If the game can't be made or are not DRM-Free, then I simply don't buy it. Not that I buy that many games anyway... I don't and can't.)

It seems to me like a mature way to view the current PC gaming situation.

I think we need more people to see, I came to PC gaming for the MOD freedom, still have to load systems to play. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind opening GOG though, I just like to know I don't have to.
I don't want to put it as a duel, I think GOG is great but evidently missing much. Steam has what GOG is missing, I don't hate them. I just want to promote GOG's perks in hopes they'll be adopted elsewhere eventually. I've come to hate the "boycott" mindset even in milder forms, excepts probably against egregious trust breaches (blatant censorship cases, disrespect for paying customers, disregard for basic workers' rights and such)
