I just updated my PC from Windows 9 to Windows 10. Seems my GoG games are no longer functional. I tried booting up Soul Reaver, which failed after the intro vid. Then, I booted up Lands of Lore, where the sound started stuttering. None of these problems were evident on my previous version of Windows. I am wondering where I can get help for this issue, or if it is being resolved. I have already googled solutions to no avail.

Thanks,

AXIV

Here is the list of GOG games that are currently not formally supported on Windows 10:

Soul Reaver is on the list.

Lands of Lore is not, so you might want to check the LoL forum to see if someone there has a solution for you. If not, contact support, as GOG thinks the game should work on Windows 10.

P.S. I didn't know there was a Windows 9.

Also keep in mind that Windows 10 was released just a little over 3 months ago. Even if a game is listed on its GOG page as being able to run on Windows 10, it will have this disclaimer:
Please be advised that Windows 10 operating system will receive frequent hardware driver and software updates following its release; this may affect game compatibility.
Those updates are beyond GOG's control, so just have a bit of patience when you contact support or post in a game's forum.

Where did you get Windows 9?

ArcturusXIV.749: ...
Did you reinstall the games, or just try to play them after a Windows 10 upgrade? Not sure if something might have happened there and uninstalling + installing the games again might be a good idea.

Lands of Lore is a DOS game (probably running in DOSBox, sorry I can't be arsed to check now), so certainly it should work. Sound stuttering might be possible to fix by editing the dosbox config file, e.g. the blocksize and/or prebiffer values under [mixer], or possibly changing the amount of CPU cycles for the game (Ctrl-F11 and Ctrl-F12?).

When I tried many GOG (Windows) games on Windows 10, most seemed to work fine. I had issues here and there like Carmageddon 2 installation failing (that should be now fixed by GOG, but I haven't tried the fixed version), Alien Shooter graphics flickering madly all the time, and Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare graphics being broken (everything is grey, as if textures are missing). Also I've heard Shogo and some others are also broken in Windows 10, as well as Windows 8.x.

For some issues there may be workarounds, some GOG is fixing or has fixed. But yeah, you might lose some backwards compatibility, at least compared to Windows 7.

Is anyone having an issue reformatting, attempting to put 8.1 back on and getting sucked up into Windows 10?

I need a refresher soon and that possible situation is scaring me a little.
Hey guys. I got Windows 9 on my laptop when I bought it.

And yeah, they gave me a Windows 10 upgrade notification a few months ago. I really regret upgrading, as both Soul Reaver and Lands of Lore aren't working, and I haven't even tested other games. I know I've had problems with the Realms of Arkania, all three games--even on Windows 9. I cannot get them to boot up.

If anyone else has any solutions, please post. I am tired of good money going out the Window if GoG games are not guaranteed to work (as they say they are.)

Thanks,

Solutions??

sure?

Regarding your problem: afaik it should be possible to return to the last OS. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this? I haven't upgraded (that i only ONE of the many reasons) and probably won't.

Edit: Found something. It will only work when you have upgraded shortly:

Edit: However your Laptop should have come with a CD/DVD with the original OS or at least an option to recover it from a hidden partition on the HDD. Maybe there is something about that in the manual.

They don't guarantee every single game will work on the latest OS; they guarantee the game will work with the OSes listed in the "Works on" section of the game card, and if Support can't help you get the game running on a supported OS, you get your money back.
Soul Reaver on PC is a glitchy piece of crap at the best of times.

I wouldn't read too much into the compatability of Windows 10 just because that game doesn't work.
The fact that you are insisting that you had Windows 9 (which does not exist) points to a pebkac problem, rather than a problem with Windows or GOG.
next thing i know, someone will be complaining about their PC being pre-installed with Windows Longhorn.
