2 and a half years since this was first suggested, and interest in it remains non existent. So I wouldn't say it's "better than voting".
I vote for voting :P
Well, I think it should indeed be like a kickstarter, in that they don't really take your money until they release the game. So it would, in a sense, be a vote with your wallet with insta day one purchase.
The comparison with pre-ordering is not really all that accurate. The real problem with pre-ordering is not knowing the quality of the game. This would be more for releasing existing games you already know about. It wouldn't really work for remakes or that sort of thing.

Bottom line; it's weird, but not as stupid as some posters before make it out to be. On the other hand, I'm not for it, neither.

PS: Wishlist doesn't work for me neither. Most of the games I want are point&click adventures for preservation purposes with really few wishlist votes (as in being a niche genre, being mostly unknown, not as old as to be in most people childhood distorted memories, and not being tied to a important licence ips -which seems to be where point&clicks gets most votes from-).

And how would putting in money help you get those games, if its a niche market then they would get enough cash up front to make it work. No, I am afraid there should never be a reason to put money up front. A business is there to provide a product which is then brought on the basis of need and quality.

You are better off posting some threads highlighting what games you want released with the wishlist entry, get some votes going, get people interested. I quite like p&c games, and get them when they are out, but you haven't given any examples. Check out Mr barry_woodward, he is always posting topics highlighting the plight of little known indie games to garner some attention.
It's probably also illegal in at least 117 different jurisdictions.

So is jaywalking. What's your point? :P

I kid. Even if it was legal it's still a stupid idea.

Indeed. I just miswrote it; it should have been "doesn't work for me either". That weird double negation thing is something that works in spanish, so I sometimes mix that up.
So, yeap, basically, I understand that putting money up front gives more weight to each vote. But P&C don't have much support, so it wouldn't really matter.

There are a couple of threads with many missing adventure games from the recent past; Suggest games (esp. indie) with less than 300 wishlist votes that people should vote for and Community Game: Draw Attention to Underrated Games are two that comes to mind.

I to have a draft version of a big post about every p&c, fmv and pseudo adventure game missing from gog that I intent to post someday.

Goo threads those, there were some games I had forgotten about (Diablo clones), so wished for now :o)

The point is that, outside of Russian mafia extortionists, corporations aren't generally in the jaywalking business.
