Not strictly true. They prefer that devs take full advantage of their EOS client integration, but other than that they don't force the DRM agenda for runtime operability.

That's not all that different from Steam, really. In both cases you need their client to download (unless you're going to risk using the 3rd-party one), and it's up to the game whether the installation is portable or able to be played without the client at all after installation.

And I might add that in my experience a significant amount of "DRM-free" (or rather capable of running without the client) games on EGS are in fact releases the game devs originally made for GOG (they still contain the Galaxy dlls!), but they just repackaged them again for Epic (same as for some old DOS titles on Steam). So if GOG waters down its DRM stance or drops out of the market you can guarantee the number of games not fully integrated into the EGS client, or have invasive DRM frameworks/libraries removed will dry up rather quickly.

But yeah, EGS isn't too bad right now when it comes to DRM. But the number of games which got client-integrated after release has increased over the past few years. It may not be "okay" forever.

True, I forgot how new Epic is at the moment. In a couple more years client base games will probably triple like you were talking about. Had no idea some of their games contain Galaxy dlls. I got excited seeing my favorite ps4 game DRM free. Lol

Apparently a bunch of games on Epic are DRM-free in that they can be launched without the client after installation. Question is, will there be any issues if you just move the game's folder to a new system, since there is no installer unlike GOG.

That's exactly how i test drm free on those weekly freebies. Claim them on an older pc i barely use anymore. check if they launch without the client running, and then copy the entire game folder to my current pc that doesn't have the client installed, and test again if they launch, If it passes, i zip and archive the entire folder. So far, 2/3 of those freebies passed the test.

Yes, and no. A few are fully portable in that the library dlls are in the install directory and don't need installation. Others need VC++ libraries installed on the system you're playing them on. Not many need a full "install" to work.

As long as GOG has a mutually beneficial contract with those other stores ... who cares about 'rules'? ;-)

Yeah, we know how it goes. GOG is allowed to bend its own CoC it seems. No, that wasn't a joke, but it does sound like one. Fortunate coincidence. Better watch out GOG. That CoC can only bend so far before it breaks.

Well why would GOG's own rules apply on Epic's site? It's up to Epic whether they want to mention competing stores.

It somewhat smacks of double standards? It seems GOG is happy to do on someone else's site what they don't want others doing on theirs.

Not really. This all start when certain store would talk bad about GOG, and send its people over to promote their store.

I tested this with several games on steam that are DRM free. If the game is DRM free, it's dose not matter how many PC you move it too. Just click and play.

Well, you're bringing up Zoom, not me. Not sure how Zoom Platform is even relevant, to be honest. We're talking about GOG here, aren't we?
