Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Gersen: Strange, and if you look in the "download/temporary" folder, are files appearing there during the download ?

paladin181: I have Galaxy and Galaxy Client folders in my Program Data folder. There is a lot of information stored in this folder about my current installs etc. It may be an unavoidable evil.
Unless you move your users directory to E:/...

My Galaxy installation is on my third HDD, while its temps folders are into Program Data, on my second HDD (where my user profile is).
is the new build releasing today?

lefantome89: is the new build releasing today?
I think it's been pushed already :)
Installed windows just so I can (finally) play TW2 and test Galaxy.

So far all good. No problems on my end.

New build has been released: suprise, suprise - a cancel button! :D

hint: It's located below (as in click-on) Game>more button

Also little feedback: dunno if it has been mentioned before, but why not download directly to the "games" directory?
I guess it will be implemented for the official release but I'm just throwing it into the wild.

I see that the layout page of the games still doesn't fit the Galaxy webview correctly like the homepage

Games were sorted alphabetically right?
Is the new sorting an option or does it replace the previous sorting.

Are you by chance talking about My Library section where view options & search elements move to wrong places when width of the Client is around 1000px or less? If so it's a know issue... If we're talking about two different things, please post about this in our mantis (unless it's there already).

omega64: Games were sorted alphabetically right?

It just was not implemented yet for the first alpha build, but the list was meant to be sorted by your "activity" from the beginning (to explain further: the list on the left serves as a subset of entire library with quick shortcuts to installed games, while your entire collection can be seen and sorted alphabetically in the Library section, with more sorting and filtering options coming there in the future).

Whether there will be an option to change it, we'll see. Feel free to suggest this using mantis - we gather there all feedback, not only bug reports :).

I just got my invite to the GOG Galaxy Alpha, and I was wondering. The Client only shows 30/78 games in my current library. It's weird too, because I have 2/3rds of the Deponia games in the client, but not the other one. Any rhyme or reason to this, or will it update with my entire library over time?

Since this is an alpha test, not all games are yet available for installation via the Client. Quoting the very first (sticky) post:

not all games are currently compatible with the client, so you’ll only see the compatible ones in the alpha version of the Galaxy Client.
For now, you can test games which are available and I hope we'll have more games for you sooner than later - they will appear in the Library view as soon as they become available :)

Just installed Galaxy, but for some reason I can only see 3 games in my library instead of 10 which I own.

Just saw the post above, ignore this.

I just wanna extend my thanks to GOG for letting me participate in this alpha. I am currently making good use of my work's wifi and downloading all possible games like it was suggested :D

So far, I haven't encountered any particular issues - except one. However, I am on Windows 10 Beta, and I don't know how that affects things.

Once again, thanks!
Galaxy just destroyed itself while updating. Now it won't even start anymore. Trying to reinstall using the installer fails because the same version is already installed. A newer installer is not yet available, so I'm currently out of options.

The installer really needs a repair function...

I have encountered and reported this very issue to the Mantis.
