Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

OdanUrr: Click on the "More" button then "Configure." You should be able to disable automatic updates there.
OK, thanks - that worked:

I imported my PoE folder to Galaxy and disabled updates the way you described. Galaxy downloaded the update anyway (and got rid of my modded files), but only once (just after checking file integrity for the first time).

After replacing the files again with modded ones, the client did not try to change anything - just like I wanted.

Thanks again for help.
Just an oddity I noticed when first checking out the Galaxy client. In my library, the games Agarest: Generations of War Zero and Creatures: Exodus show "not yet available" as it does with pre-ordered games not yet released. However, they're available and can be downloaded using my browser.

I'd like to ask a question maybe already answered: what does the client downloads after importing a game? I had an existing installation of Thief 2 (with some graphic mods) after checking the data files it started downloading some <200 MB files. Was it because of the mods and so he downloaded again the files edited? Something similar with TW2 which downloaded 176 MB after files checking.

That's exactly what's happening - all files modified at the time of importing are replaced by the original ones. From my experience, any additional files won't be deleted/modified by the client.
How can I install Polish version of The Witcher using GoG Galaxy? On the game page on Galaxy it says: "READY TO INSTALL English" - I see no way of changing the language. Using "Download Extras" I downloaded a Polish game installer, but it is "non Galaxy" from what I see.
Is there an option of installing games via Galaxy in a specific language version? I only need that for The Witcher, I'm Polish so I am only playing it in Polish :)

For now, I ended installing it in Polish on Steam.

EDIT: also, is there a way to install extras in other languages than English? I don't know how to download Polish manual for the Witcher using Galaxy.

I just installed the Galaxy Client and succesfully imported all my installed GoG games :)

Does anyone know how to prevent GoG Galaxy from creating shortscuts on your desktop?

For an alpha-version, it works pretty good, great work GoG Team!

However, I would like to see one feature in the final version: something like a "small mode" (like steam has).
I think the games list is too large, and I would like to scale it down and only see my list of games, without the integrated browser.

Another needed feature is to be able to filter the list of games by installed and not installed.

Also, the client has a "windows style" title bar, like any other app. I like how steam has unified window, without the "windows style" title bar. Perhaps GoG could go this way.
Hello @Simplex
In some games like witcher you can change language in game options after instalation,
in other games game->more->Configure if language change is available.

they are marked as such because they aren't supported by the client yet. Last I recall one of the blues said there is only 60 or less games now that are still not supported down from 600.
If there is no sufficient disk space, why Galaxy adds the game to the list of installed games?

edit: At least i can uninstall it with "More -> Manage -> Uninstall" (even though it wasn't installed :D).

sadly you will have to wait till the next update to turn off the whole creating shortcuts thing.

Destro: This and also the fact that the Client is optional and whatever you download with it will work without the Client. Having that said there is actually an option to force the Client to go offline and "downgrade" it into kind of a launcher for already imported / installed games simply by logging off.
avatar
Grargar: I haven't tried the client yet, but do the shortcuts generated by the installed games launch the client when run? If yes, will there be an option to create galaxy-less shortcuts?
no the shortcuts do not launch the client since unlike steam it doesn't need to "verify" that your running a legit copy or what ever the reason for making Steam shortcuts launch the game via steam. The Shortcuts installed by Galaxy(at least currently) are the same as what you get from a regular GOG installer.

And yes the blues have said that they are putting in a option to turn off the client making shortcuts after a game installs, possibly in the next update. I would link the post where they say that but I rather not comb through pages of posts.

cpvantom: I don't have multiple accounts on my mac but wouldn't all userids need to be privileged (Admin) in order to have write access to /Applications?
They would need admin access to install more games, but not to run ones that were installed by an admin.

(I'm kinda surprised that GOG is writing to /Applications on a Mac; they abandoned the Windows equivalent several years ago. I would have figured that they would use something under /Users/Shared instead.)

Oh, nice. Thanks for the explanation! I just checked out the client for the first time and hadn't caught up on the thread yet. Good to know! :)

No prob. I admit it's hard to know what's what right now.
