On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Destro: During patching process, Galaxy downloads only files that changed in the update (comparing local and online repository). To that end, if game is build in a way that all the resources are stored in a one big 10GB container file and a small resource of this container will be changed, the entire file is changed and thus will be re-downloaded by the Client. On the other hand, if game is built smartly without such juggernaut containers, Galaxy will be very effective during the auto updating.

Standalone installers that you speak of indeed are built with some heavy compression so that in some cases they might be smaller than update but this is not really a proper answer to the issue above - rather, delta patching is, so that the Client can operate (perform comparisions and updates) on chunks of the file, no matter their size.

Both of these features (compression AND delta patching) are planned for the Client and being worked on.
So I ended up importing a game (Stronghold Crusader HD) last night from an old installation installed via standalone installer just to see what it was doing. Now the standalone installer contained the latest version of the game and there had been no new update to it as far as I know.

Galaxy immediately said it was downloading 1.2GB (the entire game basically) but I noticed the download seemed to be going quicker then what my connection should have been able to download in that amount of time. So when It got close to the end I checked the temp folder and the size of the download folder was a little over 400MB according to Windows.

Can you please explain why Galaxy said it was downloading the entire game when it actually appears to have downloaded a little over 400MB? Was Galaxy going through each individual file and checking it against the server during install and only grabbed what it need? If so, then the problem might not be that it's not doing what it's suppose to do rather Galaxy does not display what it actually doing correctly. Galaxy should not say "downloading" when it's not actually downloading a file nor display 1.2GB being downloaded if it's only downloading 400MB. Galaxy should accurately report if it's downloading a file or simply installing and checking files against the server, ect

I still don't see why Galaxy would need to re-grab 400 MB of files that that should be the exact same as on the server but what is clear is that Galaxy reported it was downloading 1.2GB but the temp folder only reports a little over 400MB was actually being downloaded. Obviously for someone who want to track the bandwidth usage and wants to know exactly what Galaxy is doing, this is not idea.

Can you please explain a little more what is going on there Destro? I understand this is not permanent with compression and delta patching in the works, but at-least if I had a better idea I could more easily keep track of what Galaxy is doing right now until this is improved on.

Hi everyone,

We've released Galaxy update 1.1.4. This release improves DLC handling, adds the count of friends currently online, and has some assorted bugfixes. As usual, you can find detailed list of changes at the top of this thread :)

There seems to be a bug that Galaxay doesn't display the proper update size when using the Import Folder functionality. We'll look into that. As to the 400 MB download - which version of the standalone installer did you use?

Please post an issue on mantis.gog.com, we'll investigage. But please check out 1.1.4 first - it has some updates related to chat&friends functions.

Erm, I can't remember as it was an older installation I had sitting on my other PC, I no longer keep a copy of the standalone installers with Galaxy installed. I do know it was up to date game version wise as that game hasn't been updated in a long time.

EDIT: Actually I might I have a copy stored somewhere on my other PC but I can't check right now. Will let you know if I can find it.

---

Also there seems to be a bug with the 1.4 update that you guys just released. Galaxy is no longer remembering that I sort my games by NAME. Every time I restart it sets it back to last activity.

If it's an old version, then maybe there were some changes to the game build. We should change the installer number when we change something in the game, but it doesn't happen every time :|

Same here.

Liosan: Just to clarify - are you logged in in Galaxy?
Yes.

Edit: Strangely enough, after a manual logout/login cycle, the sort order now works again and my preference "Name" is remembered. When logged out however, Galaxy seems to always reset to "Last activity".

S.. Sorting by name works for me..
Nothing to report really, in a very rare occasions ShowWindow() seems to be called a little bit too early, and when I start Galaxy I can see a messed up window for a second on my screen. Can't find a pattern though..

I confirm. The same here.

Edit1: And continue previev sesion is also broken.
Edit2: The program after the restart does not remember when the game was launched.

Edit3: galaxy does not remember choice of compact list / large list.

Sorry, my bad. It seems it shows only because I have some free DLC. I will stop posting now. Sorry.

I just looked at my games in my library with GOG Galaxy 1.1.4 (beta), and it seems The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is in my library now even if I do not own the game. Might want to look into that. I may have "bought" the free DLC for the game, so maybe it has something to do with that?

It only appears when I chose "library" ---> "all my games". When I chose the Windows, Mac or Linux tab it does not appear.

Same here as well. It also always reverts back to compact list instead of large list.

Indeed there seems to be some issue. What's interesting, it's Windows only. Sorry for that, we'll try to fix it.

skeletonbow: GOG didn't opt for a mechanism that is flawed from the start. They chose a superior mechanism that the entire industry uses and is accepted as superior for the last few decades as their solution - they just have not implemented and deployed it to us yet because it is a work in progress. The existing mechanism present in Galaxy is nothing more than a temporary hack solution until they can implement the proper update mechanism they've stated they intend to provide.
I think you didn't read my entire post, that or you specifically choose to ignore the part where I said that delta patching is the obvious solution to Galaxy game patching.

avatar
skeletonbow: The old patch mechanism is better in many ways than the current stopgap not because GOG has chosen a poor solution, but because it is a stopgap right now not any real solution. That's not an argument to go back to how it was, it is an argument for everyone to either wait until GOG delivers their _actual_ solution before judging it, or to not use Galaxy at all until it is actually a finalized released product.

Proper delta updates with pre-compression or on the fly compression are vastly superior to any other mechanism for providing updates generally speaking. That is why most modern software services use this method of providing updates. We just have to be patient until GOG finishes developing this feature and deploys it to us. The end result when all is said and done in N months or however long it takes them, and after any kinks are ironed out during the ongoing beta period - are that game updating will end up being a vastly improved experience that consumes the least network bandwidth and disk space on the consumer side of things. Until then, everything we have is a temporary stop-gap and that is just fine for a developmental product not yet officially released.
In any case I'm well aware that this Galaxy is Beta software with all that it entails. In the particular case of game updates which can range from several megabytes to several gigabytes of downloads (a problem for metered connections), a stopgag solution which works badly, and opt-out instead of opt-in, is worse than no solution at all.
The old patch mechanism, is by the way, all that everyone wants, it offers small size downloads, due to delta based patching with lzma compression. In my opinion, and I stress this just my opinion, instead of opting for a broken opt-out solution (on a game per game basis) GOG could have just started with something that works and only introduced delta updates when the feature is actually properly implemented.
Adding stopgag features just to tick a checklist against the competition (i.e. Steam) is not the way to impress your users in a product that GOG wants them to use. Again, this is just my opinion, you are entitled to yours.

I would also like to point out that excepting this issue with patching, I don't have any problem with the current state of Galaxy, and actually like it very much, and for me it is even ready for a proper release.
