I have noticed that several older games will not run properly or at all if launched from
GOG Galaxy, but will run if downloaded from GOG.com.
One example is Pacific General, which will not run in Windows 10 if launched from
GOG Galaxy. If I download the setup file from GOG.com, install it, click the shortcut,
it runs fine.
This has happened to me with several DOSBOX games.
