I am trying to install the GOG Galaxy and a game (Mission Force: Cyber Storm) I just got; but when I DoubleClick to begin installation for either one, I receive this error....

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application. "

Installer not even starting (no splash or anything) - it goes directly to the 0xc0000005 error message

So has anyone else encountered this situation, and was there a way to get these to install properly?

So don't install GOG Galaxy.

(You've failed to give us even a reasonable modicum of information; even the output from Fastfetch would do.)
