will the new 2.0 version of GOG galaxy support the ability to download games you have on steam, but that are also available on GOG, to be downloaded DRM-free? sort of like the GOG connected feature they use to have, where you could transfer your games you had in your steam library to your gog library if they were available on gog, thus having the option to download them from your GOG library drm-free.

It will not remove drm from games that have it.

I don't think GOG would have the authority to hand off access to GOG versions of games you own elsewhere. And even when they do, it's not clear they have financial incentive to do so.

So GOG connect it will be. It's up to the publisher to grant people such access.

yea it's pretty obvious it would not be in their financial interests but where do you get the rest of your information? has an employee at GOG Galaxy confirmed the rest? I'm not sure what you mean.

Nope. Many DOS games sold on Steam are "GOGified" releases. It's in the agreement publishers make with GOG - they are free to sell their games with GOG's fixes on other platforms.

thanks for the clarification. thing is I've been waiting to see if bioshock 1 and 2 would connect on GOG connect but as far as I know they haven't since they were released on GOG's platform, I don't check it everyday because that would be a hassle and as far as I know there is no way to get an email or anything when games you have in steam are available on GOG connect.

i'm not mistaken about GOG connect though am I? if you use GOG connect to have some steam game that is eligible put in your GOG library it can be downloaded without the GOG galaxy client right, as in with the download offline backup game installers feature like with all the games you own in your GOG library that you purchased from GOG?

No, and you do not need a confirmation because it is obvious. GOG doesn't own the titles. The titles are here because someone wants them sold for money; GOG does the selling, takes a cut and gives the rest to that party. There's no way the typical contract between a publisher & GOG would include a clause that allows GOG to just hand out copies for free.

Pretty sure they confirmed somewhere in the 2.0 announcement thread you'd still need the clients for other platforms installed to get your games.

As far as I can tell they're basically just going to be shortcuts in your Galaxy library but they'll use 'stealth' launches of the clients where they can so they won't visibly come up if you launch them (apart from taskbar), though they'll obviously still be there and remain required (if they already were)

No, as far as I can tell Galaxy 2 will only allow you to keep all your games on multiple clients listed in one big launcher/library for ease of access and use.
==============I think that user means that rights holders give the versions(sometimes) of games that Gog makes to work with newer OSs to steam so steam can use those files & their fixes without having to fix said games to sell themselves.
