Hello,

Gog connect looks like a cool feature, however I had a few questions which were mostly answered by the FAQs, except for one. So I contacted gog at the time. Basically it's the following:-

Gog user connects to steam account

A gog user buys a game on gog. Possibly gifted. The point is the game hasn't come by fraudulently. No refund has been made and thirdly, not received via the gog connect feature.

The user has the same game on steam. This version isn't clean. Possible refund, gift was fraudulent, listed as free when in fact it should have costed money. Various reasons can exist as to why this version can get pulled.

My question was, in this situation is the gog purchase protected?

The likelihood of this situation is unlikely, however I thought the answer would be that the gog game wouldn't be revoked. However, according to support, it seems the game can be removed from the user's gog library. I tried to remove any confusion regarding the matter with gog, however they seem to confirm that the game can be removed.

The reason I ask is because I don't care about my steam account, and steam keys are from everywhere, so I can't verify their source. However I care more about my gog account and use my money on the store + a couple of gifts. So I find it unsettling that my game is no longer " purchased".

What do you guys think?

I'm going to say yes, it's protected. Reason being, you'll have a receipt for the game if you bought it here or the buyer will have a receipt for the gift. In either case, GOG will have a record of purchase and will know it wasn't added via GOG Connect.
Yeah, if the game was on your account independently of connect then I see no reason the Steam version getting pulled would pull the GOG one.

Of course, the game was paid for and has nothing to do with your Steam library.
Why don't you keep your receipts?
Thanks all. My thoughts were exactly the same as yours. I do keep my receipts, but if gog insists on revocation , then i doubt receipts would matter. :-)

Actually, they would make all the difference. That's what they're for: to prove you paid for a product, after all.

Actually GOG's terms and conditions give them the right to remove access to purchases at their discretion, so the receipts might not do you that much good anyway.

True, but applying it to this particular scenario: games that were owned due to purchasing through GOG being removed because they were erroneously flagged as freebies via Connect... I'm pretty sure producing a receipt proving they were actually GOG purchases would be enough to have them restored.

I don't doubt that, I was just being pedantic. ;)

Something I aspire to myself, so no worries. :)
