Taro94: Yup, so terrible when everyone can see what happened to the reclaim game feature, which is basically the retail version of GOG Connect. Give me all this evidence you seem to have that will show me a different fate awaits this "reclaim game steam edition" feature. ;)
I never said it wouldn't suffer the same fate, but right now it's to early to judge what will happen to it.

That's right, and I hope I'm wrong, but I'm becoming sceptical about this.
Given the promo's all seem to last only 5 days it's very unlikely we'll see any regularity to GOG connect availability. It'll probably happen every now and then and be over with just as quickly, same as before.

At least it has far more potential to happen now and then than the reclaim your games thing since it doesn't require old logs of CD-keys (if they ever even existed)

It was pretty terrible right? :P

GOG Connect should be and needs to remain temporary.

There are like 1.1+ billion copies of video games sold on Steam or gotten from the physical boxed PC versions of video games or other websites that sell Steam keys.

While gog.com gains some new PC gamer customers with GOG Connect, that's still revenue lost for video game publishing companies and video game development companies. Even though they can earn some revenue from the PC gamers purchasing their video games from gog.com.

I think you should just repurchase the video games again from gog.com to support them.

Noble.

I miss having a physical copy of a game when I spend money on it. *grumble*

Yeah I wish every single PC versions of video games sold on gog.com, Steam, and Electronic Arts (EA) all had 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free physical PC boxed versions sold at brick and mortar retailer stores. Including their multiplayer.

There are so few PC versions of video games that have their multiplayer 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free.

Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Red Faction are one of them.

I have given in other threads the reasons why reclaim your game is hugely problematic. If the publisher has kept a list of the retail cd-keys they have handed out, then they could potentially offer the game for the "Reclaim your game" program. If they haven't kept said list or if the game didn't have keys to begin with, automatic redemption will be a huge pain.
Yes, you could go the MoO way and send pictures of your retail boxes/disks/manuals, but that wouldn't fall under automatic redemption but manual processing.

I do believe that GOG Connect will return, and I hope it will be this year. Only publisher I think has the database to check for "Reclaim your game" is EA (since they are already offering that for Origin), but not sure that they would be interested in doing so. But maybe they'll surprise me when their next batch of games hits us.

Taro94: There was this worry right after GOG Connect was launched, that it will end in eternal limbo, much like the reclaim game feature.

I wanted to believe that would not be the case, but now I see where it's going.

GOG Connect can't be even accessed from the GOG website normally (at least I couldn't find any link to it), you need to manually type gog.com/connect in your address bar.

And then if you DO go to the Connect page, you can see that there are no games available to transfer from Steam. And there haven't been any for quite some time now.

I guess GOG Connect is dead already.
I agree. and I'm sad
Whenever I connect I usually only last 30 seconds so by comparison I'd say GOG did pretty well.
I'm new to gog galaxy and liking it so far, i connected my account so hopefully as this scheme develops and publishers get on board more will (hopefully) happen?

I gonna wait and see fingers crossed

I knew you were a koran bot with those weird korean characters!!!

OP, let's think about this, there's a sale going on Steam, why would they activate/renew this feature during this period? They want people to join gog/drm free but they also want people to buy games here, not to say that i can imagine some people more willing to try their luck (even if it won't work) trying to scam the system by buying it cheap, activating the game here and asking for a refund on steam.

At least wait another month or two before making those claims...

if you already bought a game why bother rebuy it?
I will support gog with new games, not with games I already own.
