As already mentioned above, my 'zons had the honor of playing Zeta's farewell match.
This was another extremely weird match. In the first half, pretty much nothing worked for me. Dodges failed, GFI's failed, three 1-die blocks which just needed a "push" ended up showing skulls every single time, my catchers didn't catch, the necros scored a touchdown, and when I lined my team up for a hopefully quick equalizer, we rolled a "perfect defense" event. Thus, the necros led 1-0 after the first half.
The second half started with another "perfect defense" for the necros and another failed catch for the 'zons, and it almost looked as if I wouldn't even be able to keep the ball. However, a quick switching play and a few lucky dodges resulted in the 1-1 equalizer.
Knowing that I would need a victory to reach the play-offs, I decided to risk it all and played an extremely aggressive last 4 turns. And suddenly, almost all the blocks, dodges, and GFIs worked. The necros seemed impressed by the sudden onslaught, tried to switch sides, and lost the ball. My zons failed a crucial pickup in turn 15 though, and it looked like the game would end in a draw, since I had only one single player in scoring distance, and she was marked and far away from the ball. However, she managed to dodge her way to the endzone. Meanwhile, at the line of scrimmage, my players had opened a path, and one of them ran through and passed the ball to my waiting player in the endzone. Contrary to what happened throughout the match, this move succeeded, and I scored the winning touchdown in my last turn.
In hindsight, it's bizarre that this match was decided with a pass. My match plan was certainly very different, I started with seven blodgers on the pitch. And I rolled about 40 armor rolls throughout the match. And what was the result? One. Single. Knock-out. Apparently my 'zons took a liking to the undead and didn't want to hurt them too much.
Thanks to Zeta for playing, it has been an honor. Come back to the pitch soon! :)
