Every life matters to the one living it, and every life affects those lives around it for good or ill. Even if you did nothing with your life and moaned and complained, then you depressed those about you. If you did nothing other than be generally cheerful and helpful in small ways, then at least you encouraged the lives about you. If you believe there is a Creator (and I do), then every life matters to the Supreme Being. Each life an outworking of grace or misery or somewhere in between, a reflection of joy or tragedy. Perhaps we all move about in the machine of creation making computations of freewill that will someday give the answer to life, the universe, and everything. The answer, of course, is 42, but what truly is the question?
