Its that time of year again, when I look at my PCs performance and consider the possibility of a video card upgrade. I've done my research, run the budget numbers and pretty much settled on a model... well, two, actually. They are both literally identical in terms of price, specs and reported performance, their only difference is brand. One is a Gigabyte, the other, EVGA. I've never actually owned a card from either manufacturer, so I'm hoping the gang here can offer some insight. Is one manufacturer significantly better than the other? How about comparative build quality? Customer service quality? Any other details I should know?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Your researches are incomplete, get an Asus Strix GPU instead :-P
I heard that the first versions of the Geforce GTX 980 by EVGA were quite noisy.
..I don't know more XD

I can't hear you! Speak louder!
The biggest difference will be with cooling efficiency / noise level but that depends from model to model, as for Gigabyte vs EVGA, everyone will have different experience, for example I like EVGA better :P

I know few Gigabytes that are "quite" noisy... without good reason :P

What about Zotac 5 year warranty? I always forget about them (but it's not like I have any experiance with them)...

Can't. I'm limited on price and most especially form factor. The PC has a micro-atx mobo, it can only accept short cards (less than 7 inches long) of which I've only found a handful that meet my requirements (GeForce 960 4GB or higher, around $300).

Again, the form factor is a problem. I haven't found a Zotac that will fit.

cogadh: Gigabyte or EVGA?
EVGA is the better company with the better product and better support. If you're going with NVIDIA then definitely get an EVGA. :>

That change everything...

You can also check R9 380 from sapphire, I remember them heaving a short model.

But if you picking between short GTX 960, then indeed, there is not much difference between them.

Sapphire is openly partnered with unauthorized resellers though. Considering how ethical GOG users are it's better to support other companies. Gigabyte, XFX, Visiontek, Powercolor, ASUS, Diamond - all do the same thing. Sometimes for less. :D
If it helps my P.C. uses Gigabyte and I'm very happy (18 months old) and I was a bit concerned when first made as always used Asus.
The only vga or motherboard in my possession ever broke was a Gigabyte, never bought another.
Instead Asus is a brand i love, never had a problem in 20 years, and the strix vga is absolutely quiet, most important thing for me, and very good quality.
Depends.
Definitely EVGA. I'm not sure Gigabyte is bad but EVGA has ridiculously good lifetime warranties and based upon what I've read, they have good customer service.

What card are you thinking of getting?
