Wishbone: Unfortunately Steam had some problems propagating the files to all their servers, so it took me about 1½ hours to install it, but that's not your fault.
avatar
franfistro: Oh, that's Steam servers. We had the same problem here in Spain.
Solution is to change server. Just check in Ghost's forum, you'll find it pinned.

Wishbone: Btw, you should ask GOG to give you orange forum text. That is a prerogative for developers who have games for sale here.

franfistro: oh, really? Then I'm going to cry for them as a baby. ^_^

tinyE: Ooops, I didn't realize the designer was here despite your login. :P I meant no offense.

franfistro: Oh, no ofense at all, just everyone's oppinion. I already survived gog's forums in Unepic. :-P
Someone gave you shit for UnEpic!? Where!? Let me at that prick!

UnEpic is one of the best games ever! I don't know who's idea it was to make me a protagonist but it's beautiful!

Oh, I know. I eventually managed to install it by changing my region to Canada (Ottawa), which someone had posted in there. It truly was an annoying issue though. The download would go smoothly until it had gotten 200.4 MB out of 201.0 MB, and then stop, just 600 KB short. I deleted and re-installed, paused and unpaused, and restarted Steam, all several times before I managed to find the "Canadian solution" ;-)

I know. the day I release a game, servers in Europe are down... this is what I call bad luck, man.

Just wanted to say you did a great job on Unepic.

Really liked it.
Just never finished it due to those enemies that transformed my weapons. (into toy hammers I think?)

It is possible to reverse the effect. If the weapon is buyable, however, you might just want to buy a new one.

Also, when fighting those enemies, if you unequip your weapon, the enemies can't transform it. (Attack by using magic, which is stronger than weapons at that point of the game, anyway.)

Side note: Those enemies can drop a wand that will allow *you* to turn enemy weapons into toy hammers. This could be fun, but I don't think it's useful, and certainly not worth investing extra into wands just to use it.

Yeah I noticed, but constantly equipping and unequipping my weapons just wasn't all too appealing to me. :P
I'm sure I'll go to back to it someday and maybe finish it.

In the good old days of gaming they used keyboard keys: 1234567890 to map it to 10 weapons/items, or a cycle through the weapons with a key asigned to it, which would be displayed in characters hand, and in a small icon.
Stackable items would get a number in the lower right corner, showing how much arros/bolts stones/rocks or potions you had.
Some games had characters who could use one weapon and a shield or a 2 handed weapon like broadswords, pikes. lances, and of couse cross bows and longbows.

@Francisco Tellez :

Nice big monsters you have in the new game, did you also owned an AMIGA in the good old days? maybe a CD32?
that was the real good stuff, long before the pc were powerfull enough to finally use good graphics, we had AMIGA to play the best games.

Sword Of Sodan ? (AMIGA) maybe you remember that one? Ghostbusters on c64? , Pooyan perhaps? and Frogger ofcourse. Pitfall 1 and 2 on the ATARI 2600, cosmic arc, all old retro games.

I know MSX , Amstrad ,zx spectrum , i think we were able to buy almost any of the existing computers back then in the netherlands , we had guilders (back then our country was great, but since they became EU lapdogs, its down the drain , but a Brexit can help us and others to become great and independent once again)

i owned a c64 because imho that was superior to the greenish looking games spectrum had.
I was fascinated by Vectrex small mini console thing, it had only vector graphics ( like old styxx game) so basically it wasnt a beauty.
I also owned a ATARI 2600 .

Yes those were the old days of gaming for me, since then games have changed alot, some for the good and most for the bad, its a good thing there are still games being developed that look like the old games like Unepic you developed, i think its the only platformer i can play (motionsickness/photosensitivity prevent me from fullscreen flashes and unepic is reasonably small on my old ctx 17 inch monitor so its the only game that's playable for me.)

Was Maze of Galious one of the first games you played, by any chance?

For me, one of the first games I had exposure to is The Bard's Tale (the one from the 80s, not the one from 200x), so the game I am thinking of writing would draw its inspiration from games like that and Wizardry, with influence from other games (like the SaGa series).
franfistro, a couple of questions:

1) any approximate date for the GOG version of Ghost? I only buy Steam games if there's 0% chance of them ever coming out on GOG (eg games like Grand Theft Auto), everything else I get on GOG. Since Unepic is on GOG, I know it's only a matter of time before you release Ghost. But what's the timeframe? 1 month? 3 months? 1 year?

2) do you mind saying what percentage of your Unepic sales were from GOG, vs Steam? I'm just curious. I don't need exact numbers, just an approximation like 20%/80%.

EDIT: got an answer from the Steam forum:
"When a patch is needed on steam, it takes moments to update fixes. For this reason, Fran plans to fix all of the bugs and provide the core content on Steam first to ensure his time is spent efficiently. When the game is complete, then he plans to expand it to all of the same platforms that UnEpic is on at this time, including Playstation, XBox, WiiU, Linux, Mac, and maybe more."

He's pushing out a lot of changes every week so looks like it will be a while.

Actually, Unepic does, indeed, allow you to map keyboard keys to weapons and spells. In fact, doing so is generally a good idea.

The main screen only displays the map for 0-9, but you actually can map whatever key you want to a given item or spell.
