PaterAlf: Progress update on
Age of Wonders:
I usually lost my heroes due to the point system after each mission where you have to assign which units to take with you to the next map ;-) The Undead play quite aggressive and they have those Reaper-like units which transform the land they walk on... those were annoying as they also transform your farms and mines.
I also found that it is often a good strategy to focus on the enemy leader. At least that was how I played the later missions during which I almost never really bothered with the city and army micro managment aspect of the game.
I can also give a progress update on
Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos Assigned by
PaterAlf What a game! Definitely a perfect recommendation for beginners in the genre of dungeoncrawlers. Fully voiced, with nice graphics, sound and automapping! The UI however is just absolutely clumsy, especially the inventory, but the fighting and magic system is simple enough. There is no classical leveling system but an usage-based one comparable to the Elder Scrolls series or maybe Dungeon Siege.
I chose Michael, the fighter, for my quest to stop the evil witch Scotia who is threatening the lands of King Richard of Gladstone. I was initially sent to retrieve the Ruby of Truth, yet it was stolen by Scotia's Dark Army. Upon my return to the Keep, Scotia had already poisoned the king, who has been magically sealed to gain time in search of a cure.
Together with my new companion Baccata, who belongs to a species of four-armed rock-like humanoids, I traveled to the cave of the ancient Daracle in order to find an elixir for Richard. Of course, the cave was full of monsters and small puzzles, so it took some time to reach my goal. Yet all I got was the recipe for the elixir, so I am now on a quest to find the ingredients ;-)
In the meantime, Gladstone Keep has fallen. My other goal is now to find the four members of the King's Council, who all have keys to open the seals which protect the king. I will have to open them once I have the elixir.
All in all, this is quite a nice game and I am enjoying it very much! :-)
Cheers!
