I'm away for a couple of days, and what happens? GemCraft: Chasing Shadows is released!

This is easily one of the best tower defense games ever made. It is huge in scope, and have some very interesting and unique gameplay mechanics. While waiting for Defenders Quest 2, GC 2 will be more then enough to scratch that TD itch... except it is not here, off course...

Played Gemcraft a while ago and enjoyed it as a flash game... But not sure if I'd want to pay for it. Perhaps I'm a little salty for losing my save multiple times and couldn't be bothered to try and get 3 stars on several missions for upgrades...

Still... interesting to hear. I wouldn't object if GC came here, it would be a good 5-minute time waster when there's nothing else to do.
I have been playing it for a few hours now, and I can report that it is really, really, really good!

Easily the best tower defense game I have played in a couple of years.
GemCraft 2? I thought there were several GemCrafts already...

Vitek: GemCraft 2? I thought there were several GemCrafts already...
It was:

GemCraft 1: The Forgotten
GemCraft 0: Gem of Eternity
GemCraft Lost Chapters: Labyrinth

Though all those are online games, this is the first stand-alone offline game. But yes, it could really have been called GC 4....
I have now clocked over 20 hours in GC2, and not even close to finish the story mode on first difficulty, no mention of doing iron man, increased difficulty and battle modifiers. I have unlocked around 1/4 of the achievements (116/419). This game is huge.

It is now officially the best TD game ever made, even better than Defenders Quest.

Hey yes!!! That's my wishlist entry. :)

I've been in contact with the developer, Peter Hargitai, on a semi-regular basis. I'm the guy who keeps requesting a GOG release.

I'm afraid it's not terribly high on his priority list. He's working on a Kongregate release right now, after which he'll contact GOG.

I am VERY MUCH hoping we could get this game here. The Gemcraft series is just ridiculously addictive.
A great game.

I enjoyed the previous parts and I had not played the online version of this. I little over 20 hours and I'm happy I got it on Steam on release day.

Heck, I already know which field I'm going to try next with which gems. :-)
70+ hours now. Still have not beaten the game, or unlocked all levels and skills. This game is huge!

Officially the best tower defense game ever made, DQ2 have it's fight cut out in front of it now.
I'm thinking about holding out. It's 50% off on Steam right now, but I should probably just wait for it. I somehow managed to wait for The Walking Dead, after all.

This game and Defenders Quest are both the cream of the Flash TD crop, but they're also massively different from each other. Liking one isn't even that much of an indicator of whether you should like the other. Gemcraft is sort of gritty and loner-ish, and DQ has a plot about a plucky band of underdogs. So in one game you tinker with gems, and in the other, you have skill trees for people. DQ1's skill trees weren't the best, but the spellcasting was a bit better on full release, and there's hope that DQ2 will push it farther.

The Cursed Treasure series is the only other good one I can think of, but I don't think it has a for-sale version.

I hope we can get some updates. Saw this on Kongregate the other day, so that's one more priority covered so far at least. Thanks for advocating.

How about a -66% percent?

Bought it at 50% anyway... Well, at least the campaign mode has matured a lot, even if it's on the grindy side. And the Field Challenges are exactly what this kind of game needs so you can actually know whether you know what you're doing, as opposed to falling back on grind-to-win every time.

As I pointed before I got it at 100% (and I don't regret it)

Just in case a bigger discount could have helped you, or someone else, get it. :-)
I e-mailed the dev again (and pointed him to this thread - hi there!)

I hope against hope that we can see it here, as the online flash versions (armor/kong) I believe are incomplete compared to the Steam version. And of course, I ain't usin' no steam.
