dyscode: BTW: wasn´t Batman a Steamworks game before on GG?
avatar
bansama: No. It's a GFWL title. Even the Steam version uses GFWL.
Thanks, yes I found out, too (see my edited post above)
So if you get the GG Version you can skip the steam overlay at least. :)

dyscode: yes, it makes a personalized Version of you games. So no more DRM checks are needed cause "your DNA is imprinted on it", as far as I gather.

I found the GWFL gives you 3 or 4 installs per month.

Should be Ok I guess.
I'm a bit new buying things on the internet. And Witcher 2 was first thing I ever bought from the net, from here of course. So now I'm studying these DD sites and their rip-off mechanisms. =) Gog is great and I don't trust anything else yet.

Hawk52: EU3 by a mile. You can pick up Civ 5 within an hour or two. EU3 will take you some time to fully figure out.
Thanks . Bought Europa Universalis III Chronicles + the two Anno Domini 1400 Sprite Pack from GamersGate .

You won;''t regret it, I bought EU Vanilla for $20 2 years ago, bought the whole package and it is a LOT better than vanilla. Personally, I got tired of the civ games, because I spent so much time with Civ4

I see, so welcome to the online shopping. :)

Yes GG is great for DRM free games but GOG is of course the best!
GG as you have notices requires online authentification when installing the game.
GG also uses Starforce and Tagés DRM. They also give you a limited install count.
But contacting GG support, they can reset it for you.
I heard not many good things about Tages, though. And In don´t have any games using it.

When GG (or other sites) say "3rd Party Client/ Account required" they usally mean Steam games. It requires to be online while installing but as long as you don´t change anything in you account you can go offline for the time being. But gibes you unlimted redownloading and installing. It requires a client overly installed to start up a game. Some people, dig it, others don´t. I like it because your games are not scattered across your HD and you can manage and back them up really easily.
You just need to be online to reinstall.
Other online game portal sites also use a client.

Then there is SecuRom which gives you a specific amount o activations and/ or even installation limits. GFWL usually gives you 3 installs/act. or more per month which means they are replenished after time.
Others only give you 5 installs/act. at all forever and some games just need to be activated once. You really need to look for the fine print here. It really varies.
And then there is UBISOFT DRM ... just goggle for it a bit and you see.

that´s the DRM in a nutshell I guess,
best :)
D2D Dead Space 1 & 2 50% off .
When downloading from gamersgate.. Was there an option to choose where it downloads or is it automaticly C: and something?

It downloads the installers to wherever you downloaded the "download game" file, in a "gamersgate temporary files" folder, or somesuch.

That's good to know.

Edit: Now I see it.

Since you're new to Gamersgate, then you should also know it's possible to circumvent their in-house authentication DRM. Simply login, download/install, then when the installer starts up, copy and paste the installer file somewhere else. This is because it is encrypted until you authenticate yourself; when you close the installer, it's supposed to re-encrypt itself, but if you copy and paste it elsewhere, you will bypass the re-encryption.

It's an unofficial workaround, but given that it's quite knowledge amongst many Gamersgate shoppers, chances are it's here to stay.

Well.. I should next time watch that. Any of that what kind of file it loads at first and what's the process in general. When I installed it asked me if i wanted to delete the temporary folder.. I clicked no. So I have now folder with game data but I don't seem to see setup file. Well I guess that if i clicked that download.exe again it wouldn't need to download.. Anyway.. I'm tired and a bit confused. =)
But I got what you meant, basicly.

Edit: Main thing is that, that the game installed and is working.

Yeah, the setup file has been encrypted and will be a file called simply 'launch'. As Lowyhong says, you simply copy it elsewhere while the installer is running. My preferred method is to Ctrl+Alt+Del and end the downloader process while the installer is running. It won't get encrypted again when the installer closes because you killed the downloader.

That launch which is a bit over 1 meg and now is not .exe or anything. Like my computer didn't know what that is.. So that file? =)

Yup. That's the setup file encrypted.

Tried with volvo the game, not perhaps best example when there's only one file but yeah.. Now I could install that without gamersgate passwords.
