I just saw this sale-dedicated website posted on a thread in Blue's News:

As an example, Studio Eres' Immortal Defense is now permanently using a new "pay what you want" model sales (min. $1.75).

That is weird. Why would anyone pay more than the minium? Maybe if I played a demo and really liked it, but otherwise...

From the goodness of your heart. That is, to give thanks to the developer.

I suppose. It's still weird though. From what I can tell, you pay them via paypal, so that is cool since they will get most of the money. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem paying a fair price for something I like. It does suck that most of these indie developers are probalby getting ripped off from sites like d2d, steam and the like who sell their games. Maybe they figured they would only get about $1.75 from those types of places so that is how they came up with the minimum. What pisses me off more though is the retail prices of PC games is going up ($60 for Starcraft II).... and you know they will blame piracy, but I think it's more to do with greed and figuring ppl pay that for PS3 and X360 games (which is a whole 'nother rant) ;). Oh well... in a few years maybe it'll be on GOG, lol.

Because there are people who respects the work of others and can pay more than the minimum.

BTW, this is to cover at least some bandwidth costs, since you download from them. If you (not you, anyone) pay the minimum, you're basically giving them a few dimes.

I can't remember where I read it, but I believe that the fee taken by companies like Steam and Direct2Drive is in the order of 25-40% (Impulse indicates that theirs is 30%).
Immortal defense used to sell for over $20, which means that Studio Eres probably used to make around $16 per sale (the default "pay what you want" price on their website is $17 - probably not a coincidence).
Gamersgate weekly deal: Deus Ex series, Titan Quest + Immortal Throne, Gothic series, King's Bounty + Armored Princess, Mount and Blade + Warband, Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold, The Witcher EE, Victoria Complete

Sweet!
I've been looking at Deus Ex for a while (haven't played it since it was new), and I'm glad I held off until now.
Victoria Complete sounds interesting, but Victoria 2 is out in a week or so, so...
Anyway, all great games.
I think King's Bounty is allergic to not being on sale.
Wow, they really put a lot of thought into the Gothic 3 sale prices, didn't they? 7 + 9 = 5

I think the best one to go with is the Gothic Universe Bundle.
You get Gothic, Gothic 2 Gold, and Gothic 3, (but no expansion) for £7.47
(I heard the expansion to gothic 3 was aweful anyway...)
Oddly enough though, the file sizes in this bundle are different to the individual packages.
